I saw an article last night about how updating LR6 will also eliminate it from your computer and substitute LR CC. I haven't read the whole article yet, but I updated a day or two ago, and I think I still have LR 6 installed. I'll have to check later. I'll see if I can find the article and post a link.
I see Jerry has posted the link elsewhere that if you don't pay attention to the installation settings, your existing software is removed but can be recovered ...

I can't seem to find where Adobe admitted too, apologized for and fixed the anomaly that did that. In other words, the article was correct two days ago, but not today. If you have LR 6.? and want LR6.13, you should be able to click the update choice in the Help menu.
Let's keep the unfounded rumors to Fox and the verified facts to the real world ...
Yes, complete urban legend. Adobe will leave stand alone copies in place. When you upgrade the CC apps, it does delete program files but leaves folders behind where you have presets, etc.
I have the LR 6 standalone on a laptop and CC on my desktop. For a while I had the problem of updates changing the laptop to CC. I had to uninstall and reinstall. Then the third time it happened I spent over an hour on a combo of phone, chat and direct link with an Adobe tech. With his help and advice I made two changes: 1. Split my Adobe account into two with different e-mails. One for each version. This kept their server from trying to blend them into one identical install. 2. Changed "update" to ask for approval from me instead of automatic install. Why? Because the Adobe update people sometimes "invite" the standalone owners to upgrade to CC and the automatic update will often go that way because it usually is listed first among the choices offered.

Along with one's images, it's also a good idea to keep installation file back-ups of software, including all plugins. That way one can always return to an earlier version. Some software companies simply do not provide copies of earlier versions, as they much prefer their customers to buy/use the latest version only.
