I usually keep my image setting on my Nikon D7100 to RAW. But every now and than it is switching on me to RAW+JPEG. I don't remember change it and when I look at the menu screen of recent changes, I do not see how it is changing. Does any one any clue on what is happening. I main notice it when I view the pictures on the PC and see jpg images, which I usually (hardy ever) us.

I usually shoot both and several times I have come back from a trip with no RAW files but have chalked it up to the camera’s ability to change many things with the comman dials plus a smidgen of operator error.

What else could it be?

I have two D7100 and have set to shoot 14bit raw only. I have never had a problem with the cameras making changes on their own.

The only thing I can think of is pressing the Qual button and rotating the main command dial.

The Fn button can be programmed to record RAW images if JPEG is set. I don't know if that works the other way around also.

Happens when you upgrade firmware.

I have the D750 twice now it has, on its own, changed from RAW to jpeg. Obviously, there is a glitch somewhere in Nikon's software that pops up here and there.

100% of the time it's user related. I've done it myself when accessing the perimeters via the Info button. I press the Info button to light up the back screen to see and change my ISO all the time. On occasion under dark conditions I have pressed the Quail button next to the ISO button and rotated the dial. My mistake, which is easily fixed if caught. It's also a perimeter you have to set separately if using the U1 or U2 setting on your Mode dial. Having screwed up in the past I Now make it a Habit to always check my perimeter screen by pressing the Info button. You will see in the bottom right corner the Quality/setting/ of both your SD card slots. Your camera is a small computer and only does what it's told, it's My responsibility to check on occasion to be sure I've given it the proper instructions.

My D7100 has done that several times. I always assumed I did it inadvertently when making some other changes but maybe it wasn't me. Interesting.

That happened many times to me when using my D7100. It was not the camera doing it, it was me telling the camera to do it, thinking I was changing the ISO SETTING

Simple matter or pressing the wrong button and turning the dial

I sometimes push the rabbit button, next to the hummingbird button.

Unless someone else is using your camera without you knowing, I have no clue what's going on.
