Hey Jules, how are you doing? Excellent photos, did real well. Look forward to seeing the rest on MaxPreps. What were your settings for these. Really sharp for night photos. Thanks

Tom

I like these a lot

Not sure, based on the shadows, that I understand how/when you were using the flash (except perhaps the cheerleaders).

I too would like to know your settings on the various shots. It first I thought you were indicating f2.8,but now I think that is just the lens. Your sharpness is nice, balanced by good DoF

Can I ask what AF pattern you are using, especially on the non-single subject shots? I have been using D9 on my Nikon, but occasionally find that I shoot “through the gap”, especially on 2 player type shots like what you have on the catch. (Or was that a larger shot where you focused on one of them, and then cropped it in PP to be centered?

Love your shots

As always good stuff here Jules...
Especially the first/last where you totally nailed the decisive moment...
Looks like you're becoming popular with Cheerleaders who are certainly not camera shy...

Thank you for sharing...

Hey Thomas how are you? Yeah the cheerleaders love the camera. It's fun.

Hi Tom: The first game was a challenge for sure.
Settings: Nikon D500, 70-200 2.8, flash SB 700 set on manual full power, 1/640 at 2.8. focus used was group focus Iso 6400 used noise reduction in pp.
The cheerleader and band shots (seen on Maxpreps) were shot with D7100 sb 600 flash on ttl. Used program mode on camera. and adjusted exposure comp when needed. I should have put more batteries in both flashes at halftime. did okay though. The flashes needed that little boast the second part of the night.

Hi David: It was quite a night, tired at the end for sure. All my settings I told Tom, so take a look at them. I try to focus on a player using group focus mode. D9 is probably like a group with a main center spot surrounded by other focus points. I find it difficult to use single focus at my age following a player running across the field, group focus works fine for me. Practice using your different modes. Steve Perry here at Ugly has a wonderful tutorial about the focus modes on Nikon and Canon.
Thanks for your comments and for looking.

The flash helps a bunch. These football fields are not lit up all that good.

Nice job!
You are allowed to use flash at your night football games? Wow! Not allowed where I am - no flash for any of the high school games. I am jealous!
Is your flash off or on camera?

Hi Japakomom:
Yes we can shoot with flash here in Las Vegas. The flash is on the camera.
Have a good day.
Jules
