This is a Eurasian Jay (Garrulus glandarius). It is just about the hardest bird in our woods to get anywhere near. This one has an addiction to peanuts but it still took about three hours today to get this shot.

Excellent shot. Our Bluejays are very timid, also.

Nice one David. I was tracking one a couple of weeks ago in some woodland, I swear every time I lifted my camera up to take a shot it flew off behind some branches..I lost patience in the end and gave up!!

Hello kpmac

Jays are super intelligent birds. I imagine they share these traits wherever they are found, even though it's infuriating Very pleased that you liked this. Thank you very much for viewing and for your comment, really appreciated. Really pleased that you liked it.

Hello Doddy

I know exactly what you mean. This bird made about a dozen approaches to the bait over a three hour period. Every time from a different direction and every time it got spooked by moving branches in the wind or by me moving the camera. I only got this one shot because it freaked at the sound of the shutter. There is a bit of interesting behavior going on here though. Last winter I was feeding this Jay peanuts to entice it in but stopped in April so as not to risk it taking them back to it's young in the nest. The day I return and put peanuts out it shows up. Coincidence or has that bird been checking the site for all those months?

Anyway thanks for looking and for commenting, always appreciated. Very pleased that you liked it.
