Really nice shots - did you offer prints to the mom? I'm sure she would have loved them!
Thanks for the compliment Sue. No I didn't, wish I had now. I really didn't know what I had got until I uploaded them onto the computer. Maybe I should check the back screen and if they look interesting I could offer to send them by e mail.
Love the first one. It also has good B&W. The second one isn't bad, it just has more of a posed look to it. Together, two good shots.
Both are good shots, but I prefer the 1st. Too bad you didn't get an email address to send Mom copies of the photos. I'm sure she would love them.
Thanks for the honest opinions both Voss & Tikva. Yes, the first one is the better shot. Although the second one looks a bit staged I can assure I didn't have any interplay with the situation whatsoever. I was just there to snap the shutter when things happened in front of me.
I am looking for some technical advice here. If you double click the second image, I increased the edge sharpness from about the usual 15% - 20% to about 35%; the line from the woman's neck to her shoulder blade is soft as is the upper surface of her left arm. The outside edges of the boy's arms are soft but the inside edges are over sharp. Is it a sunlight and shadow effect? It looks very strange to me, or am I being over critical?
I think the first one is a really great shot! I love the mom helping the kid along rather than telling him how dangerous it is. I think that creates a nice bond between the two, which you have captured. I like the b and w effect as well
Steve
Thanks for the compliments John & rlaugh, appreciated
Thanks Steve, I think that is a memory to look back on and a reason why moms have kids. In these situations I never want to spoil the moment but afterwards maybe I should have offered prints.
I laughed a bit over the first shot where the child wanted to go "all the way to the end" - if they had done that poor Mommy would have been in water over her head! I really enjoyed both pictures.
Thanks Sue, I really don't know if the boy wanted to go right to the end but it is the sort of things kids say and a nice title for the shot. Thanks for looking in.
Thanks Bob, I think it is a good family shot.
