Confused by DxO PhotoLab. Is it ready now or will it be ready mid 2018!?

It looks like I can upgrade from DxO OpticsPro 11 Elite to DxO PhotoLab 1 Elite for $69 USD and I believe that will include DxO ViewPoint 3 if I use the code that they provide because they know what software I already own.

Is it ready NOW with NIK filters integrated into it, or are they asking me to place my order now for a program that won't be available until mid 2018?

I'm confused!

You can download the full working version of Dxo PhotoLab Elite for a free 30 day trial and check out what's included. I just did earlier this evening. Strangely though, Canon raw images look sharper in Canon's DPP program than in Photolab. They look soft in Photolab I have some experimenting to do.

I'm sure there is a learning curve involved.

Is it really that strange? DxO has always loved Canon products :)

mwsilvers, does you version of DxO PhotoLab Elite currently include the NIK filters? From what I have read I got the impression that it will not come out until the middle of next year?!

I don't mean to sound 'mean' but, did you ask DxO?

Dave not the plugins you might expect. They do have Local Adjustment Tools that weren't present in DxO Optics.

I went ahead paid for it and downloaded it. So now they have two programs, DxO and NIK filters working together for mutual benefit and they charge $69 USD for it. Quelle surprise! After all it is a French company.

I entered the pass code and downloaded it. I see some new stuff but I need come up the learning curve. I don't see everything that I'm accustomed to seeing in NIK filters. Maybe that's what we will be seeing mid 2018. I see the "Local Adjustment Tools" but don't understand it yet.

I don't see them in their natively. But I will see if I can attach them as plugins, the same way I do in Lightroom. I will try to do that a little later today.

Not sure I understand how you got the NIK filters to work with Photo Lab? Is it only available once you pay for the version?

It's weird after playing around with it some more many of my raw images do look much better and sharper in Photolab than in DPP,. but strangely some do not and look much much softer in Photolab. I've got 30 days to make a decision to buy it, so I will just play with it some more and see if I can figure out why I'm getting inconsistencies. There definitely is a learning curve, but I don't believe it's a big one for me since there are many similarities between it and DPP and Lightroom.

I did pay for it. ($69 upgrade)

I did not lose the perspective tool during the upgrade. I notice some handy re-set tools that I don't remember in the OP version.

I'm attaching some photos that show the perspective tool in action:

I have not had any luck finding tutorials for DxO PhotoLab. I have read that they will be making some soon. You and I are on the leading edge of this new program. DxO OpticsPro 11 interfaced well with LR and PS after you learn how to do it. A lot of things are not obvious and I had to learn them the hard way.

Okay, I'm starting to understand what is going on with DxO PL. They have a tool that is a lot like NIK Viveze where can I select a section and make various changes to that spot. The sharpener seems to work very well. I could not find all the other NIK tools that I normally use. I suspect that they will be added by the middle of 2018. There is probably more to it that I have yet to discover. I'm still playing with it.

I can not find a place in LR that lets me export RAW files directly into DxO PL like I can with DxO OP; I'm sure that's coming soon.

Based on what I've read though you can export from photo lab to Lightroom.
