Change ISO setting on D810: Is it possible to set up the rear thumb wheel to directly change ISO settings on the D810 rather than first having to press the ISO button on the top left...

Is it possible to set up the rear thumb wheel to directly change ISO settings on the D810 rather than first having to press the ISO button on the top left dial? Perhaps a custom setting of some sort? Thanks.

Why not just use auto ISO?

I don't have an 810. But on a D4s and D7200 I use the movie record button as the ISO button. It is still a button, but easily reached without removing eye from viewfinder. Of course you still need to rotate a dial.

With my D7000, I can set Show ISO/Easy ISO. Check to see if the D810 has that menu option.

In the Custom Setting Menu, select Controls. Scroll down to f13, assign movie record button to ISO. Then you can change ISO by pressing the record button and rotating the main command dial. Also, if you have Auto ISO activated, if you press the record button and rotate the sub command dial, it will switch between the two.

I have been using a D810 since Feb 2016 and have not had a problem using the ISO button and rear command wheel. The front toggles Auto-ISO. I have reassigned the “record” button to scroll through the crop functions for those rare time I want to frame a smaller image rather than crop in PP.

If you set the record button as suggested, it is NOT affected when in live view movie mode - pushing record when in live view/movie mode starts recording no matter regardless of any setting of the movie record button via menu item f13. Also note that there are settings for either an easy ISO (d8) or easy exposure compensation (b4). Via these controls, you can set the command dials to always change ISO or to always change exposure compensation without concurrently pushing the corresponding ISO or +/- EC buttons.

Thanks, I like the idea of "easy iso" changing, I don't yet have a manual so I'm still getting to learn the camera.

Hey buddy. So that means with Easy ISO set to on, one can maintain the original function of the record button and control the ISO from the front wheel without the involvement of a button? I just want to be clear. Thanks.

I have my D750 set so I can control the ISO with the front wheel. It's very good way to do it.
