Thanks crazydaddio for checking out this posting and your nice response to it. I shot this photo with a Canon 6D and the Tamron 150-600mm tele.
Here is my secret formula for most of my surfing photos: Shutter speed: 1/1000th, F8, ISO usually about 400 (give or take depending upon the brightness). Lens: Tamron 150-600mm......focal length varies depending upon how close the surfer is. Often times I will have the lens at about 500mm - and the surfer will be about 150' away. Since this photo was taken at near "dusk" time, I had the ISO at 400 with the F stop at 6.3 at 1/1000th of a sec. This camera body is very good in low light conditions. There is no noise going on because the ISO was so low. Tips: anticipate the surfer's next move before he does it.
