Day # 11 - Date : Wednesday, October 25, 2017

Due to a visit to the local hospital to have my bum leg looked at (again), missed a bird day. So, this should have been posted yesterday. Oh well, that's just the problem of getting old and a bit decrepit.
Ah, the glorious Blue Jay, what I call the "pig" of the bird world. I have a small of flock of about 6 birds that are unmercifully attacking my feeding stations. They don't eat hardly any of the sunflower seeds/peanuts on the feeders, rather they are collecting them for the upcoming winter. I can put a half a kilo of whole peanuts out and within about 10 minutes they are all gone. As for the sunflower seeds, it is quite surprising just how many of these seeds they can put in their mouth. Once counted one put over 60 seeds in its crop. Head looked like a blue tennis ball. It appears that they take a great pleasure to scatter all the smaller birds that appear to be in their way. It's comical to sit on the deck and watch these characters hiding the peanuts all over the yard, in the crooks of trees, my wife's flowers, the lawn, etc. But it's twice as comical to watch the squirrel's following them around and digging up their treasure troves. Beautiful, colourful birds, but still can be quite bothersome. But one has to take a bit of the bad with all the good, right????
Hope you enjoy my pics of these blue wonders.

Ron

I used to care for one of those injured "blue wonders". I was surprised how hefty and muscular they are!

Beautiful pictures!

I appreciate your comment and taking the time to take a look at my pics. They are truly wonderful creatures, even though they can be a pest at the best of times.

Great shots!! Whenever I hear the Blue Jays making a ruckus I have to go see why. Usually it means the presence of a hawk or cat.

Same up here EkingbirdRI. Add to that a copla crows which the Jays seem to hate even though they are from the same family. Thanks for your kind comment.
