Lightroom 5 & 5D Mark IV

Ok, just hit the buy button for the Canon 5D Mark IV. Now I'm wondering if my Lightroom 5 will work with the 5D Mark IV....
I checked for updates in my Lightroom and it said there were no updates. Does anyone know if my Lightroom will still work with the new camera?
I do not really want to go to the online version of Lightroom as we live in the mountains and we loose our internet a lot and we do not have high
speed!
Thanks Beth

Beth, that camera works with LR v.6. If you need to do so you could download the Adobe converter and use it. The converter is available for free download on the Adobe web site and allows me to use Aperture with the newer Canon bodies. It converts files from .CR2 to .dng so v.5 LR should work for you. Good luck, and hope you enjoy the new IV, it is lots of fun!

As I understand it, Lightroom uses Adobe's Camera Raw capability to read RAW files. If you have the latest version of ACR, you should have no trouble with Lightroom.

(As an aside, I have a new Nikon D7500. LR has no trouble reading its RAW files, but Apple has not yet released THEIR RAW codec, so right now, I do not get thumbnail previews of my D7500 files in the Mac's file explorer (Finder), although files from my D7100 are no problem.)

There is no ACR for Lightroom = it IS ACR.... so the version of Lightroom that will support new camera raw files is important....

Looking at the Adobe page, the 5D iV needs Lightroom 6.7 to get Camera Raw 9.7

There is no updating the ACR built into Lightroom except by replacing Lightroom.

FYI - you do not need a constant internet connection for the CC versions of Adobe products to work - the programs and your images are on YOUR computer unless you put your images in the "cloud"

When you launch a CC product (Lightroom, Photoshop, Bridge - etc., It loads in from your computer and checks with the CC APP to make sure your subscription is current. The CC App will check for your current subscription status every 30-90 days,, so the products will work in an internet outage, unless of course you elected for cloud storage of your images of course.

The Canon 5D iV needs version 6.7 of Lightroom to get Camera Raw 9.7 - version 5 is well past its update life cycle.

Your options are subscribe to the cloud for the latest in Photoshop, Bridge & Lightroom or purchase version 6 of Lightroom and update it to 6.7 for the proper camera raw, OR download the FREE Adobe DNG converter and convert your CR2 files into DNG files which Lightroom 5 can read and deal with, OR of course make use of Canon's DPP to process your images or convert into TIFF files to further process in Lightroom 5.

The v6 "upgrade" is listed as $104.33 on the Adobe website and requires an existing install of v5. This is a better approach than moving to the CC subscription if you want to cap your software expense assuming the 5DIV will be your camera for the next few years. No additional investment is needed if you instead download and use Canon's DPP to convert your RAW to TIF for continued use with LR5. As correctly identified by Dngallagher, there are no "ARC options" to update only a component of LR.

Hello BETH

You can use Canon's own software DPP and export to Adobe Lightroom should be more than capable.

If you have Lightroom 5 you can upgrade to Lightroom 6 for around $86.00. You do not need to pay the full price. That is if your Lightroom 5 is registered in your name.

No, it won't work on the 5D IV raw files.
