It's why NPS is contemplating reimposing the bottled water ban in National Parks again. AND this in the age of trump when personal excess is considered aok and destroying public lands with coal mining and other extraction is deemed good public policy...

I'm a guy who loves to fish. Nothing could make me more mad than garbage. It is sad that so many folks like to use parks or the outdoors as there garbage can.

Embryonically, at least early on, pigs and humans are indistinguishable. Apparently some humans retain that embryonic pig brain.

LOL, That's being a little rough on our porcine brethren, Humans are way worse. I haven't yet seen a pig chuck a pop can out of their car window! 😉

The cigarette butt problem really kicked in in the 50's and 60's when filter tipped cigarettes took off. The old non filter (Luckies, Chesterfields, ETC) were all dead leaves and paper, thus 100% biodegradable! They were worse for the smoker, but better for the planet. Irony!😀

Unfortunately Jerry this is a problem everywhere. As an avid fisherman I see this all the time. The people responsible for this are the same people who keep as many fish as they can regardless of size and bag limits, who are the same people that litter the highways. They're just inconsiderate slobs!

In California, because of our mild climate and generous services we're being overrun with homeless people. Our treasured American River Parkway, a real jewel of a public space, is becoming, has become, a filthy dangerous landfill. The "campers" leave their filth and human waste scattered around the campsites, then move on to a new place when the sheriff rousts them. The whole thing is becoming a public health nuisance. No one has an answer to the problem but to throw more money at it. I certainly don't.

I've found out that there will always be slobs that will throw their trash wherever they happened to be rather than put it into a trash can. What I can't stand is picking up after them. Maybe they figure that some good Samaritan will eventually come along and pick up for them.

Somethings never change. In the mid 40s when we go to the local Bearpaw mts. The first thing we would have to do was clean up the camping area. Broken pop bottles, garbage, always cigarette buts. When went in the creek we had to be careful of broken pop bottles.
My father's moto was, "Always leave it better than you found it."

My wife and I have friends in both Scotland and Wales. Years ago both couples (on separate occasions and visits) politely commented on all the rubbish (old tires, rusted autos, discarded furniture and you name it -- it was probably there) they saw along country and city roads almost everywhere we took them for sightseeing. It was difficult for us to come up with a valid reason -- other than the obvious one of people not caring to dispose of their garbage in an appropriate way.
When we drive through the countryside in Canada and many European countries we are impressed with the obvious pride citizens take in keeping the countryside clean and orderly.
I hope we can reverse this in the USA where needed.

I have to stand guard when my 13 year old catches some one littering, boy does she go off and I have to be ready to cover her mouth, still working on her filter!! She has always been taught not to litter and if is easy for her, why is it so hard for adults?

Only two solutions that I can think of,,,,Move to the Wilderness where there are No People,,,,or better yet make Everything Biodegradable....

What we leave behind not only looks ugly, it kills or injures wildlife, both in the water and on land.

Why is finger being pointed at just “fisherman”? Balloons, diapers and tires not typically used while fishing.
The only thing found that would absolutely link the “fisherman” is the fishing line.
All of the other items could have come from any number of people such as people just out for a walk or visit to the sight, kids out to party at the reservoir, bird watchers or dare I say photographers.

Thank you for pointing that out. I fish a high mountain Colorado lake at 9200 feet. While fishermen do use the lake it is also open to whoever camps and hikes in the area. The lake is easily driven to in a vehicle and used by many photographers as well. Putting the blame only on fishermen is really pretty stupid in my opinion.
