LR--Affinity?

I am becoming disenchanted with all the continual changes in LR, and especially with the subscription version being different from the stand-alone version. As a result, I am seriously considering abandoning LR for Affinity, which sounds more friendly and apparently can work in conjunction with Photos, which I use on my Mac for basic editing.

Has anyone made such a move away from LR, and, more important, what is the general feeling here about Affinity as a primary processing program?

I use Affinity but have not used LR. I use it on a PC. Although I feel that the PC version is a step-child of the MAC version so far Affinity has worked well for me. I particularly like the how-to videos. Often I will follow along the video with one of my fotos. And of course, the price is not a budget buster.

I stopped using Light-Room when it became a cloud subscription and I no longer received updates.
I understand Serifs Affinity was originally developed for MAC and recently developed for PC, although
I have not used it yet, but like jaymatt, I have been looking at it.

If you are working with RAW photos another one to look at is On1 Raw. On1 has an indexing capability if you want to be able to find your photo's quickly (not like light room) you can keep your photo's anywhere and still be able to find them on your system if they're indexed.

I have been using the PC version of Affinity for about 3 months. Their training videos are amazing and easy to follow. There is a tremendous amount to learn but the help is there, both in their official videos and on YouTube.

I have an older copy of Lightroom but have never really used it. I switched to Affinity from Capture NX2 because of concerns that NX2 might eventually stop working. I also wanted the advanced capabilities that Affinity has to offer.

Affinity is a fine program and may work well for you, as would many other programs. If you do not use LR anyway to manage your images it only makes sense to use a stand-alone non-management type program for editing. Most likely anything would be better for editing than Photos.

I've done very little with Affinity, but it has gotten good reviews. I tend to rely on reviews by people who do that for a living, rather than anecdotal comments by users. A lot depends on your needs. Does LR do something that Affinity does not, and is that something you must have?

One key feature that I really like in LR is the keyword and catalog functions. So, it is a data manager to me, along with being able to adjust images. And, it does 95% of what I want to do...

On the other hand, although I have PS, I have also purchased Affinity as it is both very capable and relatively inexpensive. And, as someone reported earlier, the Affinity training videos are excellent.

I have been using the trial version of Affinity and am considering changing. They are great about responding to via email questions. At least they respond. Not so with LR I won’t use anything with the name Adobe, no service for anything with them.

Another program to consider is Luminar. Luminar 2018 will include an indexing feature, or DAM. It will be released in November. I will be switching over from Creative Cloud when luminar 2018 becomes available. I have tried Affinity but I do like the ease of use when a program has a catalogue feature.

I changed from adobe to MacPhun's Luminar and I have no regrets. My manual management system if you will makes sense to me. I'll have a look at the indexing feature in the 2018 version but it has to do more than that for me to bite. I do not like spending a lot of time at the post production stage and Luminar is fast and intuitive with thumbnails of what I can choose set up as a default.

I got Affinity and I also got ON1 Photo RAW 2018. The ON1 software is the one that is more like Lightroom. Affinity is more a replacement for Photoshop then for Lightroom. I use "Affinity & ON1" in place of "Lightroom & Photoshop" and I don't miss either.

I tried Affinity after hearing how great it is after using Lightroom. My trouble was Affinity is a layer type of PP, worked fine in basic but I could never get my mind to visualize in that way. I mean changing my images with layers, just seemed too strange.

I use Affinity almost exclusively now, although I had some problems early on. I love working with it, I can always recover from a mistake, and the tutorials are very good.
