My lap top died this morning, lost sound, tried to reboot, not gonna happen, tried a new RAM chip SOS.
Bought a new Lenvo ideapad 110 touch-15ACL. I don't use it to edit images, just to get on-line away from home and for auto diagnosis at work.
I really don't like the looks of Win 10, it's a bit confusing for my old brain. I can blunder around and finally find what need but it is aggravating.
Now my question is: is anyone using Classic view with WIN 10?, if so how well does it work?
I believe the link to make it look like XP or Win 7 is Classicshell.net.

Sorry to hear. I hate having to re-install all of the software on a system!
All three of mine are still Win 7. I HOPE none of them croak!

Yeah, Win 10 is a PITA. I hate MS Edge. I spend most of my time working on Linux servers, thankfully.

I have 3 laptops with Win 20, and 4 with Win 7. Both have their weak points and strong points. It took a while to get used to Windows 10 and Edge, but I'm pleased with both. It just takes time.

"auto diagnosis" For decades, I have bought the service manual for all the cars I've owned, but Honda does not have one for the Fit. You can go online and pay a daily, monthly, or annual fee to use their reference material, but I prefer to have something of my own to reference. Now, disassembly becomes guesswork.

As for Win10, don't worry about it. It's fine. It took me a little while to get used to it, but I wouldn't want to go back to anything else.

I very seldom use a manual for disassembly, mostly for reassembly and adjustments, but I have been doing this since I was a kid, I have made my living as a mechanic most of my adult life. The manuals are for diagnosing problems as is the Snap-on scanner.
I know I can get used to the new system just like a wart on my ass, but I would like to do it with menus and such that I am used to.

When I'm taking something apart, I like to know what steps to follow and what's hiding under the surface. Like many Japanese vehicles, the Fit uses tabs to hold body panels in place - not the best system. While doing recall work, a guy at the Honda dealer broke a tab on a front fender/bumper joint. I discovered this when I removed the front bumper. I broke another tab reassembling it. I disassembled a lot of the interior, and diagrams supplied by dealers were invaluable in taking things apart. With the mechanical work, guessing at torque setting can be risky.

Its not just the japanese vehiciles.Torque settings and clearances all call for a manual.
When disassembling interiors I use a very thin metal or plastic strip to locate the tabs or pins then pry back on the panel to how to proceed.
I just removed a door panel on a 4500 series GMC, I was amazed it only had two screws and a window crank to remove then just lift the panel straight up. Did the same on a Mitsubishi FH series truck and found most to the plastic tabs already broken, Since it is a company truck a few screws and trim washers did the trick.

I used to have a Honda Gold Wing, and that body was all "insert tab A into slot B." I never broke any of them, though.

I don't know how to make it go into classic mode, but if you want it to look and behave like Win 7 just delete all those screwy icons you see when you open the start button. Just right click on them one at a time and select remove or delete (I forget). I removed all of them and just use the start button to find any applications I want to start. I put some of the icon along the bottom on the taskbar like I had on Win 7. The thing on the bottom right is about the same as Win 7 and you still see the time and date at the bottom right. One thing I have not figured out how to get rid of are those ridiculous things that pop up on the bottom right when I get email or an alarm goes off. Other than that, I think it works pretty good.

I have a suggestion you might want to try on your laptop. I have a Dell Inspirion that is about 1 1/2 years old. When I turned it on the power light came on and then went off. No picture, light, sound or anything. I learned about a soft reset. You unplug it from electricity, remove the battery, and hold the power button down for 30 seconds. Then plug it into the electricity and try to restart it. If it starts you can then put the battery back in. This releases an electrical charge that gets stuck in the mother board. I also use this method when my keyboard stops working. May not be the problem, but it is worth a try. I have had this issue a few times and am concerned that one of these days it won't turn back on.

At first it's a bit of a culture shock, but everything is still there although moved around somewhat. All the programs are listed on the left under apps, and alphabetically. Some that you may not be able to find are listed under W for Windows. The big box that pops up when you boot up is customizable. You can delete whatever you don't want and keep what you want. You can add apps that you want. I find the "news" to be an added source of interesting articles, though some from a somewhat biased perspective. The important thing is that I can put my main programs on the desktop and get to them like I could on Windows 7. So, either way you decide to go you'll be ok. I think the one thing that I would change back is to list all the "accessories" under "accessories" as they were instead of alphabetically as they are in Win10.
