Hello, I am a retiree looking to get back into photography with a Nikon D600 my wife bought for me a few years back. Way back in the 80's, I was shooting with a Canon AE-1, with my own darkroom for black & white, and just getting ready for colour processing. Then, my 8 year old son decided he wanted to play soccer, and I was the only dad of the team's players who had played the game. One thing led to another, and before I knew it I was coaching regional teams. No time for even semi serious photography when you are coaching, and also running your own business.

I now have 2 zooms (1 kit lens) and 2 primes, and I much prefer the latter 2, a Nikon 50mm 1.18D, and a Sigma 70mm 2.8 DG Macro, usually using shutter priority to combat camera shake, a phenomena associated with aging.

This is a great site and I have learnt much, but am still a virtual novice, so not yet in a position to make any contribution to discussions.

Welcome to the forum, pacman! Just curious what your longer zoom is. Also, VR can help with the camera shake. What is it you mainly like to photograph, grandchildren? soccer? nature? B&W? We'd love to see some of your work. Keep us posted, and feel free to ask any questions, there's a wealth of experience and helpful hints from fellow hoggers here!

Thanks for the welcoming messages, and ELNikkor, my two zooms are the kit lens, an AF-S NIKKOR 24-85mm !:3.5-4.5G with VR, and an AF NIKKOR 70-300mm 1:4-5.6G.

Welcome aboard. Post pictures. Use the same camera. If you like taking pictures of birds I recommend the Nikon 200-500mm lens.
