Day # 6 - Date : Thursday, October 19, 2017
The replacement workers have arrived from the north. The first bunch of 3 or 4 arrived yesterday evening and have made themselves quite at home. These dark ones usually arrive in the first part of the fall, staying all winter to help diminish my millet seed supply. They take over from the Sparrows that leave for the warmth of the south. I still have a copla species of these birds with me (Song and Chipping) but they will probably be gone by next week. The only problem with these birds is that they are twilight diners which usually means that its a bit darker when they come to the feeders, making good photos fairly difficult. However, the T6i performs quite well in these adverse conditions even at high ISO values. Right now I have about half a dozen in but usually by Christmas the number will grow to at least 2 dozen. Hope you enjoy my pics of these little ones from the northern territories.

Great series, Ron and haven't seen any of the cool weather crew around here so far, but am expecting a few of the White-throated Sparrows first, and then a little later the Juncos.

Nice shots, LittleRed. The Junco looks like she's posing for you !! Were you using a flash ?

Thanks for taking the time to give my pals a look. Once I get a few dozen of these characters will surely send a bunch your way.

Thanks for looking in dmc, tis appreciated. The trick to have them pose for you is to overload the feeding station making some of the birds sit and wait their turn. Thats when you can catch a few pretty good shots.
As for flash, I never use it. I prefer to catch the birds in their natural state i.e. color etc. I find a flash sometimes causes a color change which I don't really want. Means that I probably will miss a few shots (probably some good ones too) but I prefer that method. So far it has worked out quite well for me

Many thanks, Ron and will be watching for them! btw, I was looking outside this morning to where I had scattered some mixed seed on the ground and there was one White -throated Sparrow----the first I've seen this season. Take care! Corky
Great shots, are you using the G1 og G2 lens.
Leicaflex for the thumbs up, they are appreciated.

Thanks Bultaco for the kind comment on my pics. The lens I have is the G2 model. It is quite a good lens, but I am finding it to be a bit heavy for hand holding for this old man. But the pics seem to come out quite sharp (even though is does show a bit of softness at the 600mm max, which can be easily corrected in PP). Even though it has a greater reach it still doesn't have the sharpness I get from my 300mm prime. But, it is a very good lens and I would recommend it to any one looking for a reasonably priced tele.
