Images are Compressed

Help! I'm frustrated beyond belief. I process my images in Photoshop Elements 9 and use Nik Software. After processing them in Raw and saving them as a jpeg, I resize them. Invariably they are saved in megabytes BUT at times when I go back into Photoshop E at a later time they compress to kb. Also, automatically after saving them in P E, they transfer over to my Picasa account where the images again show up in kb. Any help in solving this issue would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Do not save in JPG unless you are done with editing. (Save your edits if you need to do other things later on. Note that cropping or resizing are destructive so save BEFORE doing that.)

Resizing = compression (pixel size, color accuracy and loss sharpness)
You your may be software pointing at thumbnails vs the real file. Use 'Save as' to check where your files really are.

Other than that.....

Saving as JPG = compression (Bit depth, sharpness, color accuracy and physical size)

Saving of choice:
PSE proprietary format*
TIFF 16**
PNG 8 or 16*** Loss less compression.

------
* Cannot be shared on Internet but as a link. Recipient would need PSE
** Cannot be shared on Internet but as a link. Recipient can use any software that import TIFF
*** WEB standard. The image is larger than a JPG but of much better quality especially if the 16 bit option is used. (Note 16 is huge)

Are you just saying that browsers don't know how to display them?
