Florida National air show at Punta Gorda. Larger and faster BIF " birds in flight "
Pentax K-3 with Da* 300mm F4 for most the shots. K-5 with 28mm for a few others.
Nicely done...but if I can make a suggestion.
Slow down your shutter speed to get some prop blur.
Just a thought.
Excellent for your first attempt.
Thanks.
I actually did try to do that, ISo 160 on some, but still wanting to get some bokeh I was shooting at F 6.3 when I should have been using F16. Granted even a little would have helped but things were happening fast and I was not paying attention.
Nore did I consider what I wanted to get out of the shots.
Now I can plan for the next time :)
Amazing how easily it was to stop the props, I wouldn't have thought 1/1600 would have been fast enough. Yet I was shooting to slow on the jet lol. live and learn :)
Very good suggestion, not something I would use on real birds, and thus not something I thought of.
Thanks for that mate, much appreciated.
This is why this group works :)

Try 250 to 500 SS.
you mean sensitivity / iso mode ? I doubt I would end up with anything at 250, but 500 is certainly doable :) thanks. will have to wait a year to try it again though lol

Shutter speed...that will slow the props so the planes don't look like they are just hanging there and create a sense of movement.

...and practice panning. You dont want to sacrifice the beautiful sharpness of these images for a little prop blur. You want both !
Depending on the lens, you may have an image stabilisation setting on your lens barrel that can help.
panning a bird is easy, they dont go 200mph lol, but I agree i need to practice, and make note of image 3 settings as it was shot at 1/500, at F8, which is what i should have been doing the whole time, my bad lol
Thanks to all for making the point, I learned to pay more attention. and i need to understand not everything is a bird lol

LOL, what he said indeed.
I apologize for skrewing the pooch as it were.
Do you know, I shot 2,144 images. 2 have prop blur lol. wow. I was pretty focused on being focused and that wa sit.
Next year I will definitely watch the speed for sure. The blur certainly gives the shot more life, and I simply overlooked that aspect. " smacks self in head with heavy Pentax"
I love this place. great info :)
