Maybe it's time to give up on my camera, a D750 with a Tamron 24-70 f2.8 lens. I keep getting an error message, even after a hard reset by pulling the battery. I have gone through all camera settings to factory default. Lens & body set to AF.
In the past when doing video the auto focus has been "soft". At first I thought it was my eyes but in editing on the big screen I was very disappointed.
Perhaps a trip to the factory repair is in order. Maybe I need to check to see if all updates are in place. Has anyone had similar problems?

If you are getting error messages then yes, you need to send it in for repair. Soft images, well, wait and see what it does after you get it back from repair but if they still aren't sharp, I'd start by buying a good Nikkor lens. You may have a bad copy of the Tamron lens.

If you have another lens, try it before sending the camera in for repair. It just might be the Tamron lens that is causing the error message. After all, it's a 3rd party lens not made by Nikon.

I would not give up on your D750 - it should give you many more years of reliable service. Several things that I would suggest that you do to determine the cause of your woes. The first would be to try a different known good lens on your camera, second would be to try your lens on another known good Nikon body. Where the error message shows up will tell you where the problem is.

You should try a different lens on the camera first, before sending the camera in for repairs. Particularly since you noticed some "softness" or focus error with it, could be the lens is at fault, not the camera. In that case, maybe you should be sending the lens to Tamron... instead of sending the camera to Nikon.

Depending upon when you bought the camera and lens, that might be a good thing. I think Tamron offers a 6 year warranty on their lenses... while Nikon only warrants their cameras for one year. So, depending upon when you bought them, the lens might still be in warranty even if the camera isn't.
