Bad too the bone

These little ground hornets were getting in my trailer. I finally found them getting in through a hole in the sheet rock by the dryer vent. I sprayed Raid Max Foaming Wasp & hornet killer into the hole. Then I plugged the hold with plenty of sheet rock mud. I found the nest under the trailer in the insulation. I have already called an exterminator and waiting on him to return my call. When they sting, it hurts for a while.

I took these pictures with the used Canon 20D that I bought yesterday. I took the top picture with the 35-80mm lens. The ISO was set on 800. The knob was set on "P". It was getting dusk. When I looked at the picture, I was surprised to see the 4 flying hornets headed toward the nest. I was approx. 5 or 6 feet from the nest and not getting any closer.

I got the one in the bottom 3 pictures with the fly swatter. I placed him on a sheet of copy paper. I decided to try the 50mm lens on him at different angles. I think the know was set to the portrait setting with the ISO at 800.

All pictures were taken free hand with me holding the camera. I hope I did a decent job taking the photos. I have a lot too learn.

It does hurt when they sting you. Saturday night one stung me in the corner of the right eye brow. My eye glasses hid most of the swelling. The swelling is just about gone. I am thankful that it was in the eye brow and not in the eye ball. This afternoon on stung me on the right side of my left fore finger between the knuckle and the 1st joint. I will be glad to have them gone.

Those things are awful. They always come in large groups and are relentless. They chased me out of my yard a few days ago.

Those are yellow jackets and this time of the year, each one is looking to store up food in a new nest for it's own brood for next spring. You can make a neat trap for them by taping a funnel to the top of a liter soda bottle and putting some soda (they love sweets) in the bottle.
There are also commercial traps for Wasps, Hornets, Yellow jackets (WHY) that work on the same principle.
