I was apparently put on someone's ignore list because I called BS on that fact that they were saying IBIS was useless over 200mm. I still say bullshit, that's a flat out lie. Lack of understanding of how it is useful, poor technique, or not having a very capable IBIS system is no excuse to make a blanket statement like that.

If others would like to post examples where it was useful to them, I'd be happy to do the same. I won't do it in this post as then this would get moved to another section.

He's not one to be disagreed with. Don't feel alone. There are more of us on his ignore list.

He could have easily asked the question about who has examples to share where IBIS was usefully over 200mm, instead of putting false information out there.

When he first started posting, he started a thread complaining about sarcasm on UHH. I posted: "Is it really you? I have so many questions." He didn't get it. No wonder he doesn't like sarcasm. He doesn't the humor involved.

Clint, you triggered this rant against the language police:

The concept of cuss/curse words has always escaped, and amused, and bewildered me. Where did it come from?

Words are tools. ANY word can be used offensively. So why pick on some?

What is the difference between feces, scat, poop, doodoo, crap, excrement, and $hit? They all mean the same thing, and it stinks!

You can say, “Oh excrement!” into the cockpit voice recorder just before crashing a plane, but, “Oh $hit!” is a lot faster...

What morons decided certain words were “bad” or “naughty” or “cussing”? They should be ashamed of themselves. (I know... They can’t... They’re dead.)

Think about it, people! IT’S AN ARTIFICIAL CONSTRUCTION.

Don’t let words alone offend you. Concentrate on meanings and intentions.

Eventually he'll run out of members to add to his Ignore list. Of course, that might not be a problem for him; he seems to enjoy his own posts mose than anything.

When I was very young I asked my parents why I couldn't use some words but could use other words that mean the same thing. They are both long gone, and I still haven't gotten a reasonable answer. But somehow I learned which words not to use around them.

Same here. It STILL frustrates me that people throw up these "walls of offense" at certain words.

My college friends and I used to sit around the late night "dorm campfire" (light of the stereo receiver and candles) and laugh at it all, while listening to Lenny Bruce, National Lampoon Radio Hour, Monty Python, Satire of the Conception Corporation, Dick Gregory, and The Fugs. The joke was that repressive taboos were making these bands and comedy troupes a whole lot of money.

When my Mom was in her early 80s, she finally admitted she thought it was all BS, too. "Social barriers really suck, eh, Son?" She had wondered the same thing, too, as her Mom washed her mouth out with soap.

All I know is that IBIS on my Sony A7R2 is a lot less effective with long lenses than using the native ILIS in lenses of those focal lengths.

But, it’s not useless, right?

Technical writing has it's standard and this topic is technical... when using an acronym the full words should be stated the first time the abbreviation/acronym is used in the text ... Did I read the title and think that it dealt with long legged birds in the Nile... no.... IBIS, in body image stabilization, is standard on my Sony DSLR.. but those new to photography should not be excluded from your discussion by not stating what the IBIS acronym stands for.

But there in lies the problem with this forum. If you don’t know what IBIS stands for, then chances are they shouldn’t provide comments about its effectiveness.

No, not useless at all. Everything helps with longer lenses. Also, I have lots of vintage lenses and I love it overall. It’s absolutely great, even on shorter lenses, especially on critical focus handheld, and of course I can also handhold a shot with a 100mm lens at 1/8 of a second. Absolutely recommended!

Clint, what does "IBIS" stand for? It sounds familiar and I googled it but only came up with the beaked type. I'm thinking some sort of stabilization? Many thanks!
"Mike"

Edit - never mind! Found the answer by reading the entire thread. Sorry! Apparently, I'm not awake yet.
