I recently had an incident where my camera separated from my carry strap causing my camera to fall straight down impacting my 18-250 telephoto lens. Of course, the camera no longer takes pictures when this lens attached.
Is this something I can fix myself or does it necessitate my sending it out for repair? Also, can anyone recommend a good site to purchase a used replacement lens? Thank you!
are your sure it's the lens and not the camera? I doubt you have the knowledge to do any repairs to either. you can find used equipment at KEH, E BAY Adorama, B&H, etc.
The camera works when I attach my wide angle lens. I didn't think I would be able to fix it but thought I would ask. Thanks!
Take it apart and play with it might be able to fix it. Nothing to loose.

NO, you cannot fix it yourself. It could cost more to fix it than buying a good used one off ebay. I am guessing you have a Sony 18-250? Here is what they sell for on ebay:

Sounds like my wife quote, You can't do that.
If it's of no practical use anymore, and you don't want to hassle selling it for parts, why not take it apart and see how it works? I remember taking apart old radios, broken power tools, etc. just to see what was inside. And like WessoJPG says, what have you got to lose? :-)

That was all the incentive I needed to prove that I
could do that.
It's a Sigma lens for a Nikon. Thanks!

I am always amused by people who presume others are bound by the same limitations they are. Most of my "expensive" lenses were broken before they came into my possession. Why?, because I was able to purchase them at a small fraction of the price for a working lens. While some were definitely more of a challenge than others, I have yet to purchase one I haven't been able to put back into perfect working order.
