My Bird Of The Day # 2 (Ruby-crowned Kinglet)

Day # 2 - Date : Sunday, October 15, 2017

Another day tied to my deck by my bum leg. Trying to be patient but sure the h*** is difficult. Spotted this bird flitting through the bushes at the back of my yard. Was a real surprise to see it since it shouldn't be here at this time of the year. Temperature is supposed to be below freezing tonite. By this time he should be stretched out on the beaches of the southern USA or else enjoying the balmy breezes of Mexico. These migrants are usually long gone from my area, so it was a real shock to see him still here. These birds are protein eaters (insects) and right now there is not much of this around. He was probably only passing through quickly (if he's smart), won't see him again til next spring. Pics are not the best as I could not get any closer to his location due to my mobility issues.

I'm sure he won't spend to much time getting as far south as he needs to be. Got away just in time as we got some that white guck just a few miles north of here last nite. Thanks for looking and the kind words.

Beautiful set, Ron and they are certainly difficult for me to spot at our home although several of our visitors have spotted them.

Very difficult to spot, one of the "quick" birds, they never seem to stop moving, thanks for looking in Swamp-Cork.

Second photo is terrific. First one is just a bit cluttered. You might try some cropping.

Thanks for looking in and commenting on my pics. As for both of these pictures they have already been cropped to the utmost. One has to remember that this bird is very small, in fact one of the smallest songbirds in North America. It reaches the length of approx. 4 inches and is in constant movement in the bush looking for insects. Makes it a fairly difficult item to get a good pic of. These pics were taken using a 300mm prime lens at a distance of 50 to 60 feet. So, the originals showed a very small bird which I cropped quite a bit to show it up. Anymore cropping would have made the pic more pixelized and perhaps unviewable to a certain extent. Due to my mobility issues I was unable to get any closer to the location of the bird, hopefully in the future I will be able to do so.
