Last Day Balloon Fiesta - I was all excited, end then...
So my wife and I left the house at 3:30AM this morning for the 35 mile drive to Albuquerque and the Park and Ride we took out to the Balloon park. This is Sunday the 15th of October and the last day of the 2017 Balloon Fiesta.
We got to the park early and I headed straight for the Canon tent where I was able to "check out" (they had loaners) the Canon 5D Mark IV. They even gave me a 16GB SanDisk Ultra to keep! I was very excited end couldn't wait to take lots of balloon pictures with the 5D4!
At the morning pilot briefing they said the wind speed was too high initially to even do the morning glow, but they "hoped" it would calm enough to launch once the sun came up. Well, the sun came up but the wind did not calm down enough. There were a few balloons that inflated (very briefly) but overall the morning was a bust as far as Balloons go.
Nevertheless I did get to shoot lots of people pictures and a few semi-inflated balloons with the 5D4. It was similar enough to my 7DII that I had no problem at all getting things set the way I wanted them.
The first thing I noticed when I got home and put the RAW pics in LR was the rather large file size.

So why would you be surprised, the 5D IV is a 30MP camera, the 7DII is 20MP? How large are the files? I would guess that the 7DII are around 25 to 30 MB for .CR2 files, so the 5D IV might be around 38 to 45 MB. What did you find with your images?
Those are the 2 bodies that I own. I really think they do a great job.

I have the 7D2 and the 6D (which by the way is a really great Camera for the money!). It was fun to play around all morning with the 5D IV. It was close enough to the 7D2 that I really had almost no learning curve. I may upgrade from the 6D one of these days, but I'm not in a big hurry. The attached pics are from that morning. All were shot with the 5DIV except the one with the burner lifting up - that was with the 6D.
This guy had a 1DX II and a 5DS. With the lenses he had $15 grand around his neck!

6D - My better half at O-Dark_thirty - no flash but ISO at 25600
(

6D - Some guy keeping warm
(

5D4 - On the midway. Best Chile in the world!
(

5D4 - the balloons didn't fly but the Canon crew were ready!

5D4 - Lots of blankets this chilly morning
(

5D4 - Some balloons partially inflated, but too windy even for static display

Looks like you still had a good time, better luck next year.

The worst part is I got to play with a loaner Canon 5D Mark IV. I say that’s the worst part because now I want one!
