In 2003 Kodak claimed this 5 mp camera gave "unsurpassed image quality, which combine to provide stunning prints from wallet-size to poster-size.". So how come Walmart's photo print kiosk says my images don't have enough resolution for even a 5X7 print? And when printed out anyway prints were streaked. I had hoped to get some usable prints from a few of the 1000+ images from a 2008 trip to the Southwest. Onscreen they look great cellphone-sized. They mostly show dimensions of 448X299 pixels, so maybe wallet-sized prints. But then every once in awhile I'll get an image that's 2580x1720, same metadata as one previous for aperture, shutter speed, etc. Makes no sense.
Maybe I can print them all out at 2"X1" and make a mosaic. LOL. Or retake this whole 6,000-mile trip and retake them all.

I don't know about that camera. But, 5 megapixels is capable of making good 8X10 photos.
I will try again. I need to get my own photo printer. I'm at the mercy of Walmart, etc.

If your 488x299 is correct your pics are only 145kp or .145mp. Your pics seem to have been resized some where between the camera and Walmart.

I agree! Have done it. >AL
The Kodak DX 4530 camera has four different image quality settings. Perhaps you are accidentally changing the image settings while attempting to change some other camera setting. Before you shoot, go into the menu to verify that you are using the 5 megapixel setting.
I'm not using it anymore, but I bet you that's what I did back in my pre-aware days. I was probably trying to cram more photos onto the memory card. Darn me. I guess I should start packing my car for a long trip again.
Shouldn't cry over spilt milk. It's happened to all of us at one time or another and sometimes several times. We all need to develop the habit of checking ALL camera and lens selections before we start a photo shoot or trip. I suggest you review all the images you made on the first trip and you may find some locations were more photogenic than others and your re-take trip can be more productive. Anyway, it was proabably an enjoyable trip and a repeat won't be that painful.
