Taken with the Sony A9 and 70-300 lens
Beautiful shots in download. I especially like the first photo. The A9 was highly mentioned on uhh when first released. It's living up to what was expected. Slightly overpriced IMO, but worth every dollar to those who own it. Keep taking great photos like these.
I gotta' tell you; I like these. Yes, I am nit-picking at everything for a reason. I am a Sony shooter from way back. Noise issues being my biggest pet peeve. I shot quite a bit with a Canon 7d using L lenses vs. my Sony A580 with a couple of G lenses and a Carl Zeiss lens. The Canon beat my Sony. I then bought the Sony A77 ll over the A99 ll because I wanted to use that money saved to buy another lens. I was able to do a direct lens comparison to the Nikon full frame D750 which we used at work. Believe it or not, the Sony edged out the Nikon in I.Q.. However, the Nikon had superior noise reduction.
Then, here comes the Sony A9 at only 24.2 megapixels. Naturally, come now with the direct comparisons to the new Nikon D850. Nikon D850 - great camera! Hard to do a direct comparison since the the sensors and how Sony configures their sensor are two different animals. Apparently, Sony has seemed to quash the noise issue considerably in the A9.
What I am getting at is that I am very impressed with the I.Q. presented in your photos here. I am also thinking past these. You are probably just getting the hang of the A9. This is also impressive.
I am seriously thinking of getting an A9 myself. Now this is interesting because, if I go with the A9, I could just as well go with the Nikon since I would be starting all over again as far as lens purchases are concerned. As you know, my Sony's are A mounts, whereas the A9 is an E mount. I have lots of Minolta/Sony A mount lenses. I have no Sony E mount cameras at this time.
I know that I would go with the Sony A9 anyway since I am already very comfortable with Sony. Besides, I would not want to have to buy a battery grip in order just to use the faster frame rate on the Nikon. That part seems kind of silly to me.
I am looking forward to more postings from you.
Tom
Great shots: a good ad for the camera and lens. Love the Great Horned Owl.
These are great pics. I am not a bird shooter, as I cannot even get them when they're sitting still. But I'm intrigued by these shots. The one of him "screaming" is really great.
Outstanding set. Love the last shot.

Yea and the Sony A9 has less moving parts than the Nikon, an electronic shutter for shutter speeds through the roof, and that famous Sony electronic EVF, giving you a great WYSIWYG, rather than guessing at exposures and the need to chimp with the Nikon. P.s...the high noise on Sony translucent mirror cameras is caused by the translucent mirror. Why put sunglasses over the sensor which is basically what the translucent mirror did which added noise.
Wow! Absolutely stunning images, Paul!
A beautiful selection of photos. The bird is spectacular. You did an excellent job capturing it.
