I have a Nikon D50 that I have had for years, would like to upgrade maybe to Nikon D3400, I have a tamron 18-270 lens that I paid a small fortune for so I would like to keep it and put it on the new camera. I am looking at a Cannon T6.
Anyone got any suggestions as to which one is a better camera?
I am a intermediate photographer.
Whats your thoughts on a Cannon Powershot XS60, my friend has one and he raves about the zoom on it.

Try some camera comparison sites. Getting that Tamron lens to work on a Canon, well, I'd sell it and buy a lens designed for the Canon, if you decide to go that way.

Read comparisons and specs, and decide what features are important to you.

The Canon (2 "n"s in Canon, not 3) T6 would be an excellent choice. The Powershot has a nice zoom, but that's the only lens you can have on it. It has its limitations.

I am not all that certain about the specific Nikon models you are looking at, but if the Tamron works with the Nikon you have, I think (I am by no means sure), it will work on a Nikon 3400. It will not work on a Canon camera. I think you will find the Nikon 3400 to be a usable fun camera. The Powershots are nice if all you want to do is put photos on the web. They might print ok up to a point, but if you are at all interested in printing larger photos, you probably want something other than a point and shoot camera with a small sensor. I had an sx40 I thought was terrific when I first started taking pictures again after giving up on film photography. I was amazed at the detail I could get with it. But now after working with dslrs for a few years, I wouldn't bother with one. I consider myself an intermediate phototographer.

The Canon (please note spelling) and Nikon camera bodies do not share a common lens mount. You cannot use the same lens on both cameras. Stick with Nikon as a choice for a new camera.

While I have not used either the Nikon D3500 or the Canon T6, I have used other Nikon and Canon cameras. I use Nikons for my main photography, and Canons for my photo booths. In your situation, I would go with the Nikon since you already have lenses for Nikon. If you go with Canon, you would have to replace your current lenses. Both Nikon and Canon are excellent cameras.

You might want to check this comparison website (Note; I am not recommending for or against the store, and know nothing about them. This is just for comparing the 2 cameras.)

I would choose the Nikon D3300 over the D3400. In my opinion it is a better camera. The Canon Bridge Camera is one of the best Bridge cameras. I would choose it over the SX50. You would have an all around camera with the SX60. And won't have to worry about changing lenses. It has a focal length to 1365mm, and can shoot RAW as well, has 16 megapixels, and hot shoe. The Canon T6 and T6i belong to Canon's famous Rebel Series. Very good reputation.

I own more Canon cameras than Nikon cameras so one would think I'd tend to be more partial to Canon. I like my two Nikon DSLR'S and have acquired a decent set of lenses for them. Here is where I'm going with this; you have a decent lens already that mounts to Nikon, so, logically the D3400 or even D3300 or D5500 would be the better choice. The Canon T6 is probably the least featured entry level DSLR Canon makes and you would need a lens to get started. You have a good lens already and the D3400 is a very nice small DSLR, although personally I'd go with the D5500, so, stick with Nikon, you won't be sorry.

Since you already have Nikon lenses stay with Nikon. Go to usedphotopro.com there are many very good used or refurbished camera deals there. Camera is also another source.

I suggest you take a look at the NIKON D5600.

I have a Canon SX60HS which is new condition. It comes with a Canon camera bag, 2 batteries, charger, SD card. I will sell it all for $350. I paid over $500 for everything. Wife upgraded to different camera after a very short time of use. The zoom on the camera is near 1440mm. Out reaches my 150-600mm every time.

About half here will tell you Canon, the other half will claim Nikon is better, and they are all right. My criteria for my Canon is different from my brother's canon requirements - different camera, different lenses, different approach to photography (he is SOOC, I am Post Process). So, what I think you should do is....

Go down to your nearest camera store (no, not Best Buy or Cosco), take that lens you love with you, and wrap your hands around several Canons, and several Nikons, and a Sony, Look at the features AND HOW YOU ACCESS THEM. When you get down to a couple of finalists, RENT them for successive weekends and devote the weekend to the camera. Shoot everything you like to shoot and look at the pictures.

If you don't get that Chris Matthews "I felt the thrill going up my leg" don't buy it.

If you have Nikon lenses, stay with a Dx Nikon body.

I would suggest staying with Nikon and the D7100 or D7200 would be my choice. These models have the built-in motor so you can use current Nikon lenses and also many older, cheaper but very fine lenses. It is a win, win situation.

Hey, do you dig science? They didn't have a D50, but here's your lens on a D60. School up, is my advice. https://www.dxomark.com/Lenses/Tamron/18-270mm-F-3.5-6.3-Di-II-VC-PZD-Nikon-mounted-on-Nikon-D60__196
