On a recent visit to Galveston, we just parked the car and did a walking tour of the downtown area. I always enjoy going, because it is a seaport town with a lot of "atmosphere". Also, because of its small size Galveston is much more pedestrian friendly than Houston, the megalopolis. So here is my offering of some images from this somewhat quaint little city. Posting 10 images. Comments welcome and I hope you enjoy.
#1 They were having a shrimp fest so the streets were very crowded.

#2 Despite what it looks like, the cruise ship is floating in the water, not sitting in the street.

#3 Always numerous fishing boats tied up

#4 A forest of fishing boat rigging

#5 Always some interesting patterns and shapes to be found here

#6 A meeting of the zoning commission. I wonder what they were discussing.

#7 I always try to be on the lookout for things that most folks would simply overlook.

#8 Bon voyage

#9 I just liked the way the late afternoon sun reflected off the brick street.

#10 I thought the colorful yellow bells with the blue sky as background made a pleasing mix of colors.

Fantastic series Tom, beautiful colors and perfect composition. The only time I was in Galveston was in 1961, it looks like it sure changed. Thank you for showing.

Very nice group of images Tom. My grandfather was born there in 1893 and was present during the worst disaster in U.S. history. In 1900 a hurricane struck Galveston which killed 6000-8000 people. A few years later they built a 17' seawall to hopefully prevent it from ever happening again.
Some good work Tom, enjoyed.

Thank you so much Mike for taking a look and for your comments. I truly appreciate it. Yes, I am sure it has changed very much since 61. I'm sure there were no cruise ships there then.

Thank you very much for taking a look and commenting. We have seen some features on local TV about the 1900 hurricane. It certainly was a horrible disaster, and the people had no warning at all. Galveston was devastated again in 2008 by hurricane Ike. They have mostly rebuilt but there is still some evidence of it today.

Very nice documentary of Galveston tbell7D. Thank you for sharing your pics with us.
Nice shots. Number 9 is a great abstraction playing with light and texture.
