Apple MacBook Pro mouse/trackpad problem.

My old MacBook Pro took a bath years ago. After setting in a big Zip-Lock bag, full of rice, for over a year, it came on and worked! Now the trackpad won't "click". As a workaround I used a remote wireless mouse with no problem. Now it won't sync with the computer so I have no way to "click". The trackpad will move the curser around but nothing else. Is there a way to activate the "click" with the keyboard? I haven't tried to use a plug in mouse yet.

Move diagonally up and to the right 9 or numeric keypad 9
Press the mouse button I or numeric keypad 5

Just click on the link for full details :)

I'd plugin any old usb mouse at least till i set up mouse keys... You should be able to go via menus

To quickly turn Mouse Keys on or off, press Option-Command-F5, then select or deselect the Enable Mouse Keys checkbox. You can also select or deselect the checkbox in the Mouse & Trackpad pane of Accessibility preferences.

To open the pane, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Accessibility, then click Mouse & Trackpad.

Thanks, blackest. I'll work on this soon. I overlooked your reply. I now get an e-mail every time a reply is made to any of my watched topics. I used to get just one
e-mail, no matter how many replies might be there when I finally open it. As it is now, I'm overwhelmed by all the e-mails.

If it physically clicks but results in no action, you should look into replacing the trackpad. They are not expensive, and there are videos online for how to do it yourself. If its just the trackpad then the procedure is actually pretty easy. But if you also need to replace the data cable you might find that that part is pretty complicated. MBP data cables currently run under some of the circuit boards so you would have to pull them, according to instructions. Videos are online.
I had a glitchy trackpad in my MBP last year. The pointer would jump all over the place. After learning how to replace the trackpad + cable (I decided I needed to replace both) I decided to not do it at all since replacing the cable was too complicated. So I disconnected it internally and I use a small wireless mouse exclusively, from Logitech. The USB receiver for the mouse is very small and the laptop slips into its carrying case easily with the USB receiver still plugged in. I get along fine with my 'fix', actually.
