This new camera has just appeared on kickstarter and it has already reached its target after just 4 hours, it will be happening.

It is digital but treated as a retro film camera. There are very few controls in fact to change the film settings you have to change film rolls.

Specifications

1/3.2-inch CMOS sensor
14 megapixel photos
Built-in viewfinder
Apertures of f2.8
Focal Length 35mm
A minimum focusing distance of 1m (~3 feet) to infinity
5 selectable steps shutter speeds 1s, 1/30s, 1/60s, 1/250s, 1/500s
SD card storage (wifi card compatible)
Micro USB connectivity for data transfers
Tripod mount ready
Operate with 2 x AA batteries
Image controlled by digiFilm™
Dimension:

Body Only: 100 (w) x 64 (h) x 28 (d) mm
With lens and switch: 110 (w) x 70 (h) x 55 (d) mm

The 4 film types are :

digiFilm – full set: 1 x ISO1600 High Speed, 1x ISO400 Black & White, 1 x ISO200 Ultra Fine, 1 x 120 Format ( 6x6 )

you even have to wind on the film between shots, I don't think it is actually cocking a shutter but just because thats the way it was done.
I don't think you are limited to 36 exposures it records to an SD Card. It is supposed to have an f2.8 Lens which seems fixed and 35mm (equivalent) focal length.

Cost is around $150 but i think that's just 1 film pack.

first thoughts for me are this is ridiculous, followed by I want to try it, it sounds like fun. You can google the kickstarter project just look for

Yashica Y35

what do you think?

I read about that last night. I wonder if it will sell. Instead of moving a dial or pushing buttons, you have to insert different "rolls of film" to make changes. I hope the price is low.

HK$ 4,735,608 pledged of HK$ 800,000 goal with 39 days to go. 3,648 backers (1 USD = 7.80427 HKD roughly) or they were looking at raising about $100,000 initially and currently have around $500,000 pledged.

there is 56 minutes left to get 1 with the 200iso color at $124 various packages upwards of that. Delivery is supposed to be in April 2018.

I wonder what the Digifilm pack is maybe processing firmware or just a switch, maybe a script and a version of Imagemagic who knows.

Many people had or still have fun with steampunk. Maybe this a similar genre, filmpunk...., a quasi-retro alternate universe.

It's very chinese, in the way that the chinese make copies that look like the real thing but are not.

As an example my Chinese copy of an Apple plug for my macbook charger looked very similar to the real thing, it was functional but underneath there was a small rectangular hole the type typically included to pop out the fuse holder. There was no fuse holder just a plastic base with the hole with no purpose.

The shutter advance could have had a purpose as it advanced film but more importantly cocked the mechanical shutter. But this has an electric shutter. The lens has a fixed focus and aperture but looks like it could be adjustable. The case looks like it might be metal but it's plastic and the fake film probably holds down some contacts to decide the camera program.

The only good thing is an actual view finder which might roughly show you whats in frame. It's going to be fairly easy to hold level.

Really it seems similar to this

http://camerapedia.wikia.com/wiki/Kodak_Instamatic_155X

just uses shutter speed instead of a 2 or 3 position aperture. I did take photos with one of these.

You are aware, aren't you, that Yashica, the company founded in the '40's, no longer exists? Trademark rights were sold to a Hong Kong company. Yashica's reputation for quality has no bearing on this product. Investing $124 for a novel product to play with is fine, IMO, but, for myself, I think I would wait until it was actually in production. It might be totally legit, or it could be someone who is right now planning on how to spend all that pledge money when he (or she) shuts down the website and takes off. It's happened before.

$124.00. Nah, I got better uses for my money than buying a new/retrograde 📷 camera.

Digital Photography is probably here to stay for a while. 😜

Yes, cute camera but won't be shifting me from my dslr, might do a fair take on street photography although i think my G5 would be better even if i set it on manual focus and set the hyperfocal distance on a short lens.

Exactly.

Why in the world would a person buy this?

You want to "seem" like you are shooting film but you don't want the hassle of actually shooting film?

Hahaha.

well they are about 9x past their initial funding goal , they were looking for $100,000 ish and its now about $900,000 ish and just over 4,000 backers and 38 days to go. Seems to be scratching somebodies itch. Its all about the fun of photography without the cost of film.

It doesn't really appeal to me I want more control but it is fascinating to see how this is taking off. I think i might give my 24mm f2.8 a spin today should be fairly similar photo's with less noise than this camera 35mm is a good focal length.
