A6000 all the way! Lots of users here. I have owned mine for over 3 years. Sony still manufacturers the same camera! I just had the firmware (?) updated. You can find it on ebay for great prices. The kit lenses are fantastic. Just check out some posts on the Hog. It is the only camera I own.

I'm thinking of purchasing a Sony Alpha a6000 or an a6500.

If any of you have experience with either of these cameras, would you care to share your opinions? This would be my main camera, and I shoot mostly landscape-type photos, along with a smattering of whatever comes along.

Thanks in advance for your offerings.

I have both an a6000 and an a6300.

I took my a6000 to europe and around the Mediterranean. Came back with hundreds of good images. Mine was an early version and did have a tendency to focus-hunting. Despite this I loved the camera. I put an 18-200 lens on it and was very happy. I did sell it because I missed a jack for an external microphone and I do videos fairly often. (A video without good audio is "drek".)

The a6300 was due out in November but didn't show up until March. I bought another a6000 to use in the meantime and continue to enjoy it. It had the new firmware and makes great images. When the a6300 came out, Cameta fulfilled my standing order and I have had nothing but great photographs--limited, of course, by my bumbling lack of skill. I have not tried the a6500. The a6300 has more features than I can use already. I particularly appreciate the great eye-autofocus and the face recognition. For video, I added a Sennheiser microphone. (Actually, I had already used it on my Nikons). The a6300 has even better focusing than the a6000 which is, itself, better than any other camera I've owned.

Some great shots in Death Valley last spring with the a6300.

I have been amazed at the clean results even at ISO 6400 and the almost noiseless at 12,800. I love the silent shutter as well. These two things allow me to shoot even in fairly dark museums and churches where the shutter noise would be disruptive and no flash should be allowed.

I have presented my work in three art shows and it has been well-received.

The a6500 did not seem to offer anything I needed. But I will take a look at whatever comes next.

My previous cameras have been NiCan, the last being D7100 and D7200.

I came to Sony kicking and screaming. But their photo engineers have done a good job.

I have one, and I like it. It's a very capable camera. Gary Fong has a couple of videos about using it, one for $$, and one for free on the B&H site. Maybe I have the links.

Well, I managed to find 55,100 links. Take your time. : )

I was thinking along the lines of the Sony a6300 but finally decided and did purchase the Fujifilm X-T2 with the 16-55mm lens. So far no regrets. I weighs just a little over 1 lb. whereas my Nikon D750 with the new Tamron 24-70 G2 weighs in at around 4 lbs. The Fuji is more friendly toward my arthritic hands.

You may want to check in with your eye doctor if you don’t see noise at 12800

I love my a6000. If you buy it get body only and buy the G lens'. I have the 10-18, and the 18-200, and my next lens will be the 100-400G.
The 6500 is great for video with the 18-105G. The in body 5 axis IS is a definite plus.
As for the remark that the 6000 cannot handle the FE glass is not entirely true. I rent those lens's all the time and have never had an issue.
I find the 1.5 additional length a plus. I am debating getting another camera to have a 2nd and will either get a 6500 or A7R2
Good Luck and have fun. Bottom line you will only use what you will carry. And you will only carry what is comfortable in your hand.

IMHO, The a6000 should be fine for landscapes as is. If you want image stabilization, you can always get it in the lens. The body as a fraction of the price of the A6500, but that does have in body stabilization, as I am sure was already pointed out in the earlier posts in this thread.

I agree. It’s not my main camera but it’s a damn good camera. Have the same lenses. Easy for me to take to work and use it.

Now for birds in flight in Florida.., that’s another story. Love my D500 and 200/500 lens.

I have the a6000 and I am very happy with it. I had a Nikon d5300 and I was very happy with it except for the bulk and weight. I looked at the a6300 and a6500 but they were more expensive. I didn't feel like I was getting much more camera for my money.
I would recommend the Sony 18-105 f4. It actually goes out to 205mm and is quite usable at that setting. The kit lens 16-50mm is actually quite sharp. It has gotten a bad name on this forum but I have found it an excellent and compact lens. Don't overlook it.

I have had an A6000 for quite a while and I really like it. I use it with a couple of kit lenses 18-55mm & 55-210mm. I also have three sigma primes 19mm-30mm-60mm art lenses, all make very very sharp images, and a bunch of inexpensive old vintage lenses from various mfgs. A couple of which take quite nice pictures. Certainly worth consideration.

I have the a6000 and love it. It was a major learning curve, however, after 50 years with Canon. Different nomenclature, different menus, different controls, etc. Documentation from Sony was terrible. Recommend David Busch's book to help with the learning curve.

I owned an a6000. I sold it and bought a Nikon D500. I wanted to be able to use my DX lenses. I was going to the Balkans and needed a light camera like my a6000. So I bought an A6300. I was happy with my a6000 and happier with my A6300. No sense for me to upgrade to spend more to get an a6500. Any of the 3 is more than adequate for my travel Photo needs. I also have an older Nikon D800 as my main camera for more serious photography. It is heavy and don’t use it as much. Check the features of the a6500 and see if the additional features are worth spending more on.
