Last week I took a ride out to the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge looking for some photo opportunities. I have found some days I hit it right, and others are a total bust. Just depends on the animals. Today was a very good day!

Being a bumbling old timer amateur, all suggestions and comments are welcome.

Then there's this idiot out of his vehicle which is strictly prohibited in the Bison Enclosure. Where's a Ranger when blatant disregard for the rules is violated?

Micheal, what a wonderful opportunity to photograph magnificent wildlife such as you did. You certainly made the most of it. As for the numbskull, he's the kind that gets "attacked" and makes the news and then causes grief for everyone else. Apparently, there's no shortage of idiots no matter where one goes.

Thank you for the kind comments Bob, and yes it's fools like him who give us all a bad name.

He probably knows that rule is made by the preserves insurance company to release them from liability. Looks like you kept yourself at a safe distance, though.

That I did, and I didn't leave my vehicle for my shots. That fool would have been in trouble if there was a cow with a calf close by. It was on a Sunday with only one Ranger for the entire Refuge. He probably knew this.

Semper Fi - thank you for your service. My late husband was a career Marine and I served 2 years during WWII. Your well captured images are phenomenal, Jake. Besides the cooperative animals, you knew how to use your camera.

Cool shots, I knew there were deer there, but not buffalo. I haven't been there for over 30 years. I worked at the arsenal for one day, as a pipefitter. That is when they still stored nerve gas there. I got into some red looking dirt. The next day when I was getting ready to go to work, my work boots were in pieces. Whatever was in that dirt ate the stitching in them. I called the contractors and quit, told just mail me my check. That place was nasty

Yes, at one time it was declared a hazardous materials area, but has since been cleaned up by the EPA to the tune of about a gazillion dollars, and the wildlife thrive out there. Not only do they have deer & buffalo but also coyote, eagles, hawks, cranes, pelicans and a plethora of ground hogs. (oh boy) I usually go there a couple of times a month and rarely have to get out of my SUV to get a pretty darn good shot. (at least to me) Each and every shot in my thread was taken while sitting in the drivers seat. They have a wonderful visitors center there with displays, photographs, an enclosed and outdoor viewing area, and stuffed animals. Kinda like going to a museum. I would encourage you to go, and take the 20 or so mile drive through the sanctuary, and definitely go to the visitors center. I always take my 70-200mm lens for my wildlife shots, and my 24-105L for the visitor center and other opportunities. Thanks for the nice comment.
