I shot this a few weeks ago, it was my latest product shoot. No, I don't shoot product every day!
This was mostly an instructional product video shoot but I also shot the package images. This is not the package image but it was MY fav of the series.
Plus, she's one of my favorite models. We have a lot in common and a very good working relationship.
Thanks
SS
Great! But what is the product?

This post is about the portrait, not the product!! LoL

Very well done. She knows (or maybe you told her) how to position her hands so that the edge of the hand is towards the camera. The clear cellophane wrap above the red bow kind of threw me at first. Everything in the photo has high contrast against the white background except for the wrap. I can see how this could definitely be used in an advertisement.

Yeah, I know. I was just trying to figure out what it was she was holding. It looks like a package of balloons. I like her balloons better. But you always take good photos.

Who cares? A great portrait of a lovely model.
OK- I ain't fussy so I will critique the shot on the basis of a commercial and a portrait shot and kill two birds with one stone.
All commercial shots are not catalog-like "product shots", per se, nor do the have to be. Some can be categorized as concept shots or illustrations where people or models are included or the product is shown in use. A concept shot can be more of a mood or study that goes beyond a literal image of the product. Like an ad for a funeral home doesn't have to illustrate coffins or tombstones- it can show a flower or a scenic shot etc. Many hygiene, cosmetic, institutional and medical products are advertised in a more conceptual manner.
As a product shot, however, the item lacks PRODUCT IDENTIFICATION, which is important so that the product is more recognizable in terms of its packaging or logo. Good job of lighting in shooting through the plastic wrap!
As a portrait- the only basic traditional no-no is that you crossed the nose with the far cheek. A better and more aesthetically pleasing angle is either a 2/3 face or a more exact profile. Yes- nice placement of the hands.
@the other critique giver-It ain't cool to directly or indirectly make reference to the model's physical attributes, even in a joking manner. In a real life situation with art directors, ad and modeling agencies, that kinda thing will land you in the dog house, mar you reputation and cost you business! It can be considered harassment and is not in good taste! Here on the Hog- the model could be the photograph's daughter, sister, wife or girlfriend and that kinda thing could not end well. Yes! she is an attractive young lady and that's as far as it should go!
I want our new sections to be conducted in a professional and business-like manner! Thanks in advance.
