I have been photographing wildlife with a Nikkor 80-400 lens on my Nikon 7100. I have read a number of reviews of the second generation Tamron 150-600, the G2, and I am considering purchasing that lens. What have been actual experiences - good or bad - of "Hogs" with that lens? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
I just picked up a 150-600 G2 Tamron and have only had time for a dozen test shots. Camera is a D750 set on auto - no flash. JPG's no PP or crops. So far I am very pleased. First is a a painting of a fish about 10x12 inches painted on reclaimed crab pot wood from about 12 feet with no flash or other light except a east facing window late in the afternoon so the window was in a shadow from the roof. Not much light. Navigation chart behind the fish is faint. Exposure 600mm 1/30 f/6.3 ISO 6400 on a tripod. Second shot is my Minpin. Better light outside late afternoon with a little sun. 150mm 1/500 f/5.6 ISO 400 handheld VC on. I'm sure in good light stopped down a couple stops it will be sharper. She is kind of heavy so I will try it on a gimbal head. The focus was fast in brighter light. VC seemed to work well. I'll post more test shots.
