If you don't know why you want to switch to full frame, you probably should wait. When you are ready, you will know it.

I use the Canon 1dmk4 crop and 1dsmk3 full frame. Full frame is the way to go, never buying another crop camera.

What are the reasons why you wouldn't go FF?

It will deliver better results in many situations, it will cost you a bunch more money, and give you a heavier set of equipment to schlep around.

What is there to stop you upgrading?

Actually I started with FF and think it's a good thing to start with FF but if you already started with APS-C then I don't see very good reason to upgrade to FF.

Please tell us what lenses you have and what type of shooting you do.

In the interim, here’s a concise comparison of features:

It depends on what type of photography you do. Personally, I do landscape and nature shots, so a full frame Nikon was a real asset in improving my images. If you're into wildlife, you'll get longer reach with a crop sensor camera, same with sports with a long lens. Full frame bodies and lenses have better low light performance and offer a greater depth of field.

So, what type of photography attracts you?

If you want one, just get it.
BUT, if you want feedback, you need to start by telling us exactly what you shoot and how you shoot it.
For a majority of shooters, if you have to ask...., you don't need it...., PERIOD!!!

If you can afford a full frame camera then it's up to you if you should buy one. If you have EF-S lenses for your 70D they will not work on a full frame body. I have both full frame and APS-C bodies, including the 70D and I still use my 70D quite often.

It depends on the lenses you own.

A FF camera is larger, typically, heavier (metal vs Plastic) and for the same shot with the same number of pixels requires more glass. If the additional weight in your hands and the reduced weight in your wallet is worth the increased speed and decreased noise, then definitely.

Before you commit, I would definitely rent one or two with a variety of lenses in the range you typically shoot, and use it for a weekend. Shoot side by side against your 70D. Then, open up the images and compare.

Then ask yourself if you should upgrade.

When using lenses that result in the same field of view, you will get more depth of field with the cropped sensor camera. For example, a 16mm lens on a 1.5x crop sensor camera will give the same perspective and field of view as a 24mm lens on a full frame camera but the depth of field will be much deeper. It depends on what you like to shoot.

I was reading a review on a new Hasselblad medium format camera. The reviewer was taking landscape photos and remarked that he was struggling to achieve the deep depth of field that he wanted.

I went from a Pentax K1000 to a phone camera to a canon 5d mark 2 and I love it!
I would reccomend a full frame for a
number of reasons, but have never owned a crop so...here goes.
Larger files, which for scenery is the way to go.
A larger camera (I tell people I am compensating) with a ton of options that I don't really use, but they are there if I want to.
It's not cheap, but it's worth the money.
Just do it!

Why do you think moving to a full frame system is an upgrade? Have you exhausted the capabilities of your kit and find that the equipment is holding you back from maximizing your creative expression?
