I will be taking a cruise to Alaska soon with my Canon 6D Mark II. My questions revolve around which lenses to bring with me. I have, or have access to the following lenses:
Sigma 12-24mm f4.5-5.6
Canon 16-35mm f2.8
Tamron 24-70mm f2.8
Tokina 24-200mm f3.5-5.6
Sigma 70-200 f2.8
I am definitely taking the Tokina because of its all-around range, but what other lens (only one) would you suggest I take and why?

A f/2.8 lens for shooting indoors / low light. Do you need more than one? The 24-70 f/2.8 would be the choice.

For me, a wide - medium range zoom for landscapes like the 12 - 24 of the 16-35 And something longer if you are going to Denali and taking the guided tour for wildlife. Can you get a telextender for the 70-200? Some of those Bears are a long way off.

Good point about the bears. I took my 28-300mm and liked the reach ... but might have liked a tad more of it. Other than that, it looks like you're covered. Best of luck. Catch some auroras with your f2.8s.

I agree and do the same. Been there on two separate adventures. The extender would help with the Bald Eagle shots as well!

My wife & I are going May of next year.

I'm taking my Tamron 28-300 and my 12-24 Sigma Wide Angle.

A 2 week Cruise, Bus & Train tour.

Charles, we are going in June and I think I agree with you. The best two lenses to take would be the Sigma 12-24 and the Tokina 24-200. Thanks everyone for the suggestions, but I think these are my choices.

Aboard ship you are going to want the 24-70 2.8.

If only one lens something like the Tamron 18-400mm.

I went in June and brought my Olympus with 75-300mm lens which gave me 600mm reach. This was beside my Fuji camera.

If you are the photographer, then you should know what to take.

On my journey to Alaska (flying in to Anchorage and doing a land trip), I managed with the 24-70 2.8LII and the 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II. I was able to cover everything I needed. I did however carry both my 5D3 and the 7D2.

If you have to ask, TAKE NONE OF THOSE LISTED. TOO HEAVY, THEY WILL GET IN THE WAY. You want to travel lite, and travel right. My Alaska camera's included, Sony HX400V 24-1200 Zeiss T* lens, Sony HX50V 24-720 G glass, SOny RX100M2, 28-100 1.8 Zeiss T*. You are planning too much weight and too much equipment, TRAVEL LITE, TRAVEL RIGHT.

Take the Tokina and definitely take the Canon 16-35! There will be some great vistas to photograph! And it is fast and can be used for indoor shots on the ship if you wish.
