There I was, Dangling From a Rope....

.....or not! I was actually sitting on a rock. At ground level. But I do like the effect of the low cloud here - it seems the climber could be much higher than she actually is.
Hound Tor is a popular practice site for would-be rock-climbers. They tramp up there in their hordes, often carrying a mattress on their backs which is strategically placed in case of a mishap. Still hurts, but not as much as without it. Anyway, do you get any sense of height from the shot?

Absolutely! I love it. Reality be damned... (BTW, when I was younger, I was constantly searching for women with matresses on their backs.)

Here I am, laughing out loud..with no one home to explain to why I had this fit of uncontrollable loud mirth...only the dogs...and they are wondering what’s going on!

Thanks for that!

Hi, Dave,
I do get the sense of height.
great silhouette!
As an acrophobe (who had to be a rock-climber anyway to get to falcon eyries to collect blood samples from eyasses)
I have sensation of great height on a ten-foot ladder!

Fell off a 20-foot ladder once ...but just off the second rung...a definitely inauspicious start to my barn painting!

The way you shot this, 25ft off the ground or 2500 meters up on the Eiger are the same. Very nice.

Glad you had a chuckle Dave.
I’m not good up ladders either, so can sympathise.

Thanks Erich, that’s what I reckoned.

Yes I get a sense of height from the shot. I experience it as a serious dramatic image.

Having said that.. I would also love to see pics of people carrying mattresses, and even better, landing on mattresse. ;)

Good to know it worked for you JD.
Your mental image of the mattress carriers may not be quite what one actually sees! It's not a kingsize job, although sizeable enough and looking quite strange as a backpack.
If I happen to have caught one I'll put it up.

A vivid image that tells a story. It's good that it's almost a silhouette, but perhaps a bit less dark shadow and a bit more sky might work better.

I did try less shadow but didn’t like it as I wanted the silhouette effect. Haven’t got any more sky as it stands, but Photoshop could oblige - that could be just what it needs RG.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Just to be clear, I wasn't suggesting a light levels adjustment - I was referring to the composition (about one third of the frame shadowed cliff face and two thirds sky).

Ah, I tried that as well! Just personal choice, went for the squarer format.
