On the hills above Loch Torridon in the Western Highland of Scotland, Highland Cows, [or Highland Coos as they are called], graze peacefully among the heather.

Thank Angela, there was a herd of about 20 wandering about the hillside and some with calves, but at no time did they take any notice of me wandering among them, as you say gentle giants.

Prehistoric looking beasties. Between those and American bison, I'm always reminded of a time when powerful animals roamed freely across the grasslands. Wonderful images Geoff.

A farm near me has them and they were up to the fence... I was able to run my fingers through their red hair and feed them grass!! Just have to watch those huge horns!

Cheers Bob, Im not to up on American Bison but I am lead to believe they are quite aggressive creatures, where as the Highland as so docile, that said I agree it is a beautiful thought of the times when great herds wandered freely.

I dont know of any reports injuries caused by there horns but I guess there must have been?
