This is my result. I was using Camera Raw Filter in Photoshop. I am sorry if you do not like it.

I do like this after the work in Photoshop. The outline of the cat is now visible.

Did you bring up highlights a bit more and add more saturation? I need a PP101 course since I am intimidated by it, ha. I know how to do maybe 3 actions in PP and mainly use LR for post processing.

Sorry, you've completely lost me on that one. If you can set them up at 45 left/ 45 right and take the shot, why can't you set them up at 15 left/ 75 right and take a shot?

Sorry about the confusion. I will experiment with the 15/75 angles and give it a go. I am doing this shoot again with hopefully better results.

I am wanting to have detail throughout the photo. I have two small continuous softboxes as my light source and that is my challenge. I shot with a D750 1/250 at f2.8, ISO640 using a 24-70mm lens zoomed in to 58mm. I am within 5 to 7 feet from my cat. Would f8 give me a better chance of grabbing more detail throughout the shot and suffer with a higher ISO and slower shutter speed? Thanks for your advice.

Of course, you control DOF with the aperture, a smaller one will give you more DOF!

I was just thinking out loud. I'm still learning lighting on my pets which is fun and challenging. Having a black and white cat is also fun since I have to set my exposure to not blow out the white yet bring in a nice, sharp black fur.

Ran your image through PS Express and found lots of detail in the cat, flowers, and vase; but none in the background. So I would guess the lack of background illumination is why there is no image data there.

Yes, I would like a little light coming from the back side. Just enough light to have some shadow back there. I am going to try a large octagon attached to the strobe on one side and a reflector on the other side just to see what happens. Then I will try an octagon a bit above pointed down at an angle with light and some side light to see what will happen.

Maybe my eyes aren't good (or they are too good) but I see lots of detail in both the flowers and the cat. You might see more detail in the cat's fur if you used a lighter backdrop. The two blacks tend to blend into one.

If you look from mid chest down to her paws you will see that I have lost detail which is partly due to wide open aperture and camera within 6 feet of cat. I would ultimately like to have a small bit of rim light around cat with very light shadowing yet blending in to the dark background. But I want everything in focus for this particular shot.

Here's another one using Photoshop RAW and a touch of NIK... It took about 5 minutes. I liked the original mottled background. Hope you don't mind me messing with your image.!
