Indiana Covered Bridges

We're doing a tour of the Hoosier state covered bridges October 17 - October 22 with a stop-over for the Exhibit Columbus architectural art display. I plan to leave the big boys at home and take my capable little Nikon P7800 for its versitility and compact convenience. This is a compromise at 12MP of course, but it works O.K. for me. There are only a few covered bridges in the Brown County area so may have to go across to Parke County for the best examples. Any advice regarding our timing or route to help us make the most of our 4 - days on the ground would be most appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Be sure to go to Bean Blossom for their covered bridge. And there is a really nice one with a mill and small waterfall at Bridgeton. Brown County has several good ones including the one going into the State Park there. Enjoy your time there. It is a beautiful area in the fall.

Parke county has more, but is really crowded because that is thier bridge festival time, October 13th - October 22nd, but Brown county is crowded then also but is really close to Columbus and the way into the park is before you get to Nashville and the shopping crowd there and the way out of the park is on the other side of Nashville toward Bloomington. A boat rental on lake Monroe can get some really nice fall shots. I recommend looking at Google earth and the state park for ideas of what you want to shoot. There is a great spot on top of the ridge past the park on the way to Bloomington, right before you go down the hill/ridge, for a great pan shot. There is a quasi spot on the north side of the road where two driveways come together that they have widened enough for a car to pull off and walk across the road for the shot. Wish I could give you a mile marker. I guess I could do a screen shot of Google. Let me work on that. The park as a nice tower on the west side heading out toward Bloomington for shots.

Only problem with my routing is that the Bean Blossom bridge is on the third way out of Nashville with no connection to the park with out driving through Nashville, which can be at times very slow.

And the architecture in Columbus is awesome. I love the fire station.

Thanks both for the tips. We were in Brown County State Park a few years ago but the fall colors came late and we missed them. Too much rain and fog for safe stop along the highway. The Google Earth is a good idea and Bean Blossom could be fun.

This year is supposed to be good due to late drought.

Trees are starting to loose their green but some color in spots, mostly small trees/shrubs, right now.

I think you can go through the whole park at 360 ground level in Google earth.

I found the Brown County Leaf Cam. It could be helpful guide.

I forgot about the leaf cam, I do remember hearing that it was up and running a couple of weeks ago. I will try by tomorrow to get you a location for the over look.

The field that splits into two to form a north pointing arrow is the location. In the close up you can see the two driveways coming into one where I would recommend pulling over and the spot across the road. they even have a bump in the fence to give an spot.

We will surely be passing this way and I will watch for this site. I think we might get lucky this time as fall colors are beginning to appear. Thanks for all the feedback. Much appreciated!
