Excellent letter!

To: 'Kevin Ferguson' <Kevin.Ferguson@pelicans.com>
Subject: Saints/Pelicans Support

Dear Kevin:
This email is not directed at you personally but rather the ownership/management of the New Orleans Saints & Pelicans and the NFL. We would appreciate you forwarding this to the proper management personnel.

Our company has always supported the New Orleans Saints (Season Ticket holder since 1970 and presently have 10 season tickets) and the New Orleans Pelicans (Suite Holder or Season Ticket Holder since inception and presently have 6 courtside season tickets) by both purchasing tickets and attending the games. This year, our company will have spent over $ 73,000 supporting the two franchises.

However, following this weekends’ release of the statement from the management of the Saints/Pelicans and then watching the disrespectful behavior of members of the Saints team during the playing of the national anthem yesterday, we feel the need to reassess our support of both franchises and leagues.

We are firm believers in the rights afforded to citizens by the First Amendment. However, we strongly disagree with the Saints/Pelicans stance that condones behavior that dishonors our F**g, National Anthem and those that have fought, bled and died defending those freedoms. The NFL and NBA are entertainment, plain and simple. We attend and watch the games as such, not to be lectured to or be part of a political agenda by a group of overpaid prima donnas. These national anthem “protests” have been going on long before President Trump injected himself into the controversy, and for 13 months the NFL did nothing to address the disrespectful behavior. There is a reason NFL TV ratings are down and it is because the people of this country want to watch a football game to be entertained and not be offended. The behavior yesterday by over 200 NFL players was disrespectful and offensive.

This past Saturday I attended the Tulane/Army football game. Professional sports franchises could learn a few things from the behavior of these student athletes. Respect for the F**g, Military, National Anthem and Country was everywhere. Following the conclusion of the game, both teams players and coaches, gathered in front of the opposing teams bands and stood while each teams bands played their alma maters. Do you realize how difficult this must have been for the members of the Army football team, who had just lost a heartbreaking game to Tulane? But they put Duty, God and Country before their personal beliefs and feelings. And while it is very doubtful that any members of the Army football team will ever suit up in the NFL, they are the heroes of this country, as they are willing to put their lives on the line to defend the freedoms afforded to these millionaire “protesters”.

We are thoroughly disgusted and disappointed with the stance of the management, staff and players of the New Orleans Saints/Pelicans and the NFL and truly believe our monies would be better spent supporting true entertainers/athletes and not those with a political agenda. While you ask that we support the rights of your players to protest, we would expect you to support our rights to take our money and support elsewhere. As supporters and season ticket holders, we deserved better.

Yours truly,

WOW, what a fantastic letter. Thanks for posting it, sirsnapsalot....I agree 1000% with the writer's letter. It is high time that these prima donnas learn that "democracy isn't cheap." (as told in the movie the American President.) Just who the hell do these people think they are? Demi Gods? Maybe if ALL their supporters stopped going to a few games and they lose their millions paychecks...maybe they will just play the game and stop politicking...

I quit watching the Saints when Benson threatened to take the team to San Antonio if the state or city did not agree to build a new stadium for them. I did not even watch their Superbowl win. This is just another example of the arrogance of that organization, thinking they can act as they wish and not pay the price.

But did they actually withdraw their support? It just states that they want to "reassess" their support. It reads like it's a threat to withdraw rather than actually withdrawing. I would have liked to read something more definitive, such as "Therefore, effective immediately, we are removing all support both financially and otherwise......etc".

Thanks! And I should add that even if it is just a threat, it's a darned good one, and one the leagues should think about because that's just ONE of their sponsors. They should wonder what the others are thinking and/or considering also.

Excellent - I hope they quit supporting them and stop buying their season tickets. Fuck the NFL!

I have seen a number of pictures on this. One had a player 'on knee' with a fist up - that implies protest. Another had a player 'on knee' with hand over heart - that one is not disrespect but a message nevertheless.
