I'm looking at an adaptor for my sd cards so I can use them as CF cards. I've never used one of these and was hoping someone could give me some feedback on them. The reason is that I have many High end SD cards and no CF cards, so I was hoping to have some of them do double duty.
Thanks

Hi Mr FT!
The problem is that SD to CF Adaptor cards are known as Type 2 which are 5mm thick to allow housing the SD card inside it while regular CF cards are only 3.3mm thick and called Type 1. CF Card slots in cameras were Type 2 and were physically thicker because in the early and not-so-early days of digital, they could also accommodate IBM Microdrives which are 5mm thick as well and could also accommodate the thinner Type 1 card. The microdrive soon fellow out of favor. My Nikon D700 has a Type 2 CF card slot and often I used SD to CF Card adaptors (I have 4 and I also had a microdrive) because SD cards were and now even cheaper than CF cards. I did do tests with the adaptor and everything worked as it should. Nowadays most cameras have a narrow Type 1 slot that uses only standard cards as in the case of my updated Nikon D800. Some camera have 2 slots, a CF Type 1 and SD (or 2 SD slots). Hope this helps. Cheers. Ed

Very good idea.
EDIT: One moment! Looking at the picture of this card, it looks like I would have to remove the adapter to remove the SD card. I considered getting one for my D70 IR camera to avoid removing and inserting the CF card and taking the chance of damaging the pins. If I have to remove the adapter, why bother getting one? Of course, with an Eye-Fi card, I wouldn't have to remove the SD card.

I'd buy some CF cards for the CF slot in my camera ...

Just a (slightly) off topic comment. If you're ever considering using an EyeFi SD card in a CF slot, buy the SD to CF adapter from EyeFi - other adapters may or may not work (been there, done that).

You can get type 1 and type 2 CF adapters for SD cards. There are plenty of them on ebay.
I just got a type 1 CF adapter to use SD cards in something other than a camera.

Yes, they've gone through several changes. They were Eye-Fi, then Mobi and then they got a new name for the software. I forget what they call it now.

Yep, tried it a couple of years ago with 3rd party CF to SD adapter (when EyeFi was not selling an adapter), and performance was poor. My son uses EyeFi/Mobi cards and likes them, but I opted for a Camranger instead (which is excellent and allows camera control as well as downloading)
CF cards, and SD cards were quite expensive 9 years ago, even for a 4gb card. Kingston CF cards were very popular then. As stated earlier, there are two thickness types of CF cards. If a camera has a Type 2 card slot, it will take a Type 1 card. A Type 1 slot will not accommodate a Type 2 CF card. If you buy a CF card adapter, make sure you know what type slot your camera is. The Nikon D5 is a Type 1 slot. Older Sony DSLRs took Type 2 CF cards. Sony does not make DSLRs anymore.
