Canon - great service

I discovered a small dust spot on the inside front glass of my 100-400mm II which is covered by CarePak and warranty. I don't know if I missed it from day one or it suddenly appeared. In any event I sent the lens to Canon CPS on Monday and it was signed for at Canon at 9:18AM Wednesday. By 10:10AM Wednesday Canon sent an e-mail advising the lens would be returned, repaired, within the next 5 days. Last night I received notice that I would get the lens back this AM and Fedex did indeed dropped it at my office by 10AM today.

Oh I know some will carp and say it should never have been a problem to begin with, but things happen in our imperfect world, so I got over it.

Thanks to Canon for prompt service.

Happy shooting

Some would also say, who cares.
I agree, it shouldn't have been a problem in the first place but it's not a perfect world and they, Canon, took care of the problem without a problem. Glad you got your lens back, quick and clean.

You know, lenses "breathe" as you work the zoom function, it is not a sealed environment. Compressed air has to go somewhere and decompressed air has to be replaced.

As I have posted before, I sent a question to their service department and a camera repair tech responded with an answer very quickly. I was very impressed to not have the typical: "Send it in with lots of money and we will take a look at it" kind of response that most companies would do. I had my minor problem fixed quickly with no fuss. I also purchased a refurbished 6D - in absolutely pristine condition - as some say, refurbished items may be BETTER than new, because a technician has actually inspected all systems, updated firmware/software, etc. Thanks to UHH for reminding us that these sorts of things are why we spend big bucks on equipment and why we remain faithful to our brand.

Agreed. That's why I wondered if it just came up. I have had the 100-400 I for a number of years with no issues. Things happen. I'm just glad it was fixed quickly by Canon and another reason why I belong to Canon Professional Services.

Thanks for the comment.

Canon customer service and technical support has always been outstanding. 2 weeks ago sent my 12 year old 5D in for a cleaning. This is the first time I have sent this camera in for anything. Yep it's old but still very usable for what I use that body for and today has over 98,000 clicks on it. Canon sent me an estimate for the cleaning and they inspected the body, I accepted and within 3 days had my camera back and it had a clean bill of health. I use the Canon repair center in New Jersey and have NEVER had any issue with lenses, DLSR's or video cameras and have use them for all three. Quality, service and support is very important to me that's why I'm Canon.

Glad to hear that. Just purchased a sensor cleaning kit and wondering if it wouldn't be smarter to send my Canon 6D in for service. Thanks for info. /George

I have the Sensor Scope kit and have had to use it only a few times. I must admit I get nervous every time I use it. But I'm very careful and don't rush things. If you're handy and don't get overly aggressive I see no reason why you can't do this yourself. On the other hand I don't think Canon's charges will break the bank either. When I've had to have repairs done the cost has usually been less than anticipated. Why not give them a call and ask what they charge, then make decision.

Here are the current prices for cleaning at Canon's NJ repair facility. Had my 7DII done there a few weeks ago. Excellent service.

BTW, for the 18 point, and possibly 11 point cleaning, write down any custom settings you have. Many of mine were reset to default after the cleaning.
