I find cars are very hard to shoot.
If you get the whole car, even a big piece piece of it, you ALWAYS get the crappy distracting backgrounds/forgrounds.

And that's why we photo editors have jobs!
Pesky background?
Forget about cropping!
No problem with the revolutionary "Background BE GONE !! 5000 (Tm)"

Can you see the problems with it? the parking bay stripe in the door panel everything through the windows... The first problem really is it's in a parking lot on a sunny day.

Sorry if that sounds harsh, but advertising photography is all about solving the problems.

It's NOT harsh at all. This took 4 minutes (and it shows).
I did a quick blur on the windows.
And admittedly, I goofed: I thought the parking lot stripe was pinstripping.
I should have cleaned up all the edges too.
I work at discount. I never said I get top dollar.

The point is for illustration purposes only: what can be done without cropping..
Background and object removal software is getting easier and more powerful with each generation!
This worked in 60 seconds. It used to take me 25 minutes to ONLY mask and extract this.

2 hours more and you would get your pleasing advertising shot BUT ain't getting paid for it.
I'm just throwing out ice breakers.

But the completed work could be thrown onto a beach or into the sky- the possibilities are endless.

You could have solved ALL those problems by just putting a HOT naked girl into the car!!!! LoL
AND, if she's HOT enough, would melt all that ICE too!!!

True but isnt that what the secret boudoirre category is about?
I have my standards.
Lousy as they maybe..

To Paraphrase Groucho Marx: "I wouldn't work for anyone who would hire me".

I would love a critque PLEASE! It's the only way I will be a better photographer.
Yes after I posted the crane photos I realized that they really didn't fit the category.

Val! The crane photos are FINE! They fit the industrial category perfectly. My point was that they are an artistic interpretation rather than a dull catalog shot! Photos like that are used commercially all the time. Keep up the creative work and continue posting.

When I get back to my office, I will write about the GTO shot.

Okay. "You are humble, teachable, inquisitive; a snappy dresser and extremely good looking"!
I think that, although your cranes, were not product shots they were still very nice images.
Keep up the good work.

Ps you may have all my critiques. I get a lot of them.

If you cant say anything good don't say anything at all.
And throwing that wisdom out of the window..
There's nothing particularly creative or any forced focal points in this image. In my AMATEUR opinion.
With the exception of possibly the GTO emblems, or the light next to them, or maybe the luster of the chrome in pleasant contrast with the darker aspects of the overall photo .

It would be somewhat hard to tell what this is selling or used for, other than, the GTO name, headlamp replacement, or chrome polish.
So that's one positive comment for the cranes and one not glowingly comment for the GTO.

Although having said that. with the addition of some graphic text however:...
It could be spun in an advertisement intended to appeal to the backyard mechanic..THAT could actually work. In that case, the verbiage would explain the photo better. In which case, it would actually work after all!
But by itself.. I wouldn't think so.

Most importantly
you are contributing positively to this new category (and the image wasn't posted by me).

Keep up the good work.

AWESOME!!!
You are 100% Spot on and thank you.
The GTO shot I was trying to emulate the old brochures from the late 1960's when Pontiac had imposed strict guidelines on the ad campaign. Yet that image does need work to get it down pat.
When I get a chance I have more to post up one specifically that would I think be good for a shipping company. I am really enjoying this section a lot!

On second take: I bet Advertising photography is all about selling things.
The GTO comments sparked my interest in 1960's Pontiac advertising.
Here you see the very same problems that YOU are commenting about.
Here you see tree branches and all manner of things reflected in the glass and paint - no different then my illustration sample.

I guess Pontiac photographers didn't know what they were doing either.
Sometimes "perfect" isn't necessary.

Interestingly the TEXT features heavily into the overall composition. I commented it was absent from the GTO submission - and that the image might work better with it.

I like the angle on that i wonder how high the camera was. The reflections are good they fit with the scene. It's still a clean image.

Come on y'all! Here's an ASSIGNMENT for you folks. Just grab any ordinary or mundane object in you home or office and give me a creative shot of it. Who knows- a can opener, a Swiss Army knife, a teapot- whatever.

OK- I decided to shoot my lunch. Tip- one ordinary light fixture directly over the subject and I moved the plate forward so the light was slightly behind the subject. I don't usually drag my camera to the neighborhood greasy spoon so I shot this with my i-phone.

Total simplicity!
