I'm trying to get my camera ready for my granddaughters softball game.
I put certain settings to use in manual mode, and a different set in TV mode. Every change I made I saved. I then shut the camera off, turned it back on and switch to my second mode choice. I noticed that the changes I made in manual mode are the same in TV mode. I made the changes to TV made and those changes are now the same in manual.
What am I doing wrong?

My psychic powers are fuzzy today. I can't quite focus on what camera you're using.

Oh! I'm seeing TV on your mode value. That's a Canon, which helps...not much.

It's a 7D MK II. I'm trying to figure out how to lock my settings in different modes.

Set them in C1, C2 or C3.

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

Your owners manual is your friend with this.

If I clear all camera settings will that put the camera back to its original settings, or will I screw things up?

I'm pretty sure it will clear any setting you entered.

I know it's me, but I find the manual a bit confusing. I find that you folks provide guidance that are easier to understand.

I will have to spend time going over the manual.

Thanks

Go into the menu (under the wrench symbol) and pick "custom shooting mode (c1-c3)". Set your camera settings and then follow the prompts to save them. The manual is kind of daunting - you'll find detailed instructions on page 464. If you don't have it available you can download a PDF of the manual here:

Make sure you download the expanded digital manual that came on your disk. I put mine on my desk top and my iPad. I can take the iPad with me when I go out to shoot. Once you spend some quality time with the camera menus it will be easier. There's a lot there to digest.

Camera manuals are written in Jenglish---badly translated English. BUT, it is absolutely worth spending the 5-30 minutes per page to decipher every single page, testing each function as you go.

YES, that can take weeks! Anything worth learning takes time.

By the time you finish this process, you'll know how to REALLY read a manual, AND how to decipher such poor translations, AND how to use your camera!

Amazon lists a number of guide books for the Canon 7D Mark II. Check them out and see which might be easier to read and absorb than the Canon manual. /Ralph
