7D2 functions you never use? Two of the functions on my 7D2 that I never use are the DoF preview and the rating button. I really don't see much difference when I use the DoF preview...

Two of the functions on my 7D2 that I never use are the DoF preview and the rating button. I really don't see much difference when I use the DoF preview and I never feel it necessary to rate my images based on a 3" preview.

Any other 7D2 owners use or don't use these functions? Any other functions you never use?

The good news is that you can reassign those buttons to something you would use.

I rarely use the rating button. I find the DOF is useful when I am taking a photo at f/1.4 or f/1.8 where the DOF is extremely narrow.

I use the DoF feature on occasion and use the rating button, but only rarely. While there are other features and functions I may only use occasionally, I can't think of any that I never use.

I thought it idd that most of the custom buttons are reassigned via the Custom Settings whereas the Rate button has it's own menu item and can only be set to Rate or Protect (that's what I have it set to although I rarely use it)

As a sport shooter I find the rating button invaluable. I can pull photos I need quickly between quarters of a football games and run them thru Lightroom and upload them to the media outlets. The one button I never touch is the picture style button.

I have the same camera and never use those functions either. But you can reassign them to do something that might be useful but I haven't done that either. I have tried the DoF button, but can't seem to see much difference so I just ignore it.

In fact I did reassign them both. The DoF button I reassigned to switch between RAW/JPG and the RATE button I reassigned to "Protect" (which oddly is the only choice).

I don't understand this. The DOF preview button stops the aperture down to shooting aperture. If you are shooting wide open it does nothing as you are already viewing at shooting aperture.

I doubt most people use more than ~10% of the functionality of a model camera. Buy a high tech, high priced camera and set it for Auto Mode

I always use the DOF preview quite a lot, it doesn't matter which camera I use, I do it with all of them. (it's a habit for many, many years)!

I think the same is true of the major software packages. But, not everybody uses the same 10%.

I know how to use 100% of the features of the 7D2 and use 90+% of then regularly. Anyone who buys a high end camera like the IDx, 5D4, and 7D2 from Canon or the D5, D850, or D500 from Nikon and is only familiar and content knowing 10% of the functionality of these cameras wasted their money.

I use a lot of the features of my 7D2. Probably not 90%, but far more than half anyway.

Many of the features I don't use are those that only work with .jpg files, such as picture styles, because I almost always shoot RAW. I also don't use GPS much.

When I first bought the camera I also bought a comprehensive tutorial from Michael Andrews and even he (a professional photographer) said there were functions he seldom uses.

If the image is getting darker or lighter it is working. If you look carefully, and don't change the focus, you should see more in focus in front and behind where you are focused. If you don't, it is probably your eye and not the camera. You have to keep the DOF button held in, not just press it, at least on most cameras.
