As mentioned in his post, Nimbushopper and I joined forces yesterday to enjoy the lovely waterfowl at these lakes in downtown Lakeland. There are regular siteings of Mandarin ducks there, however, they have eluded me for a long time. Photos of them have appeared here over the last few days, so I thought now is the time to get there. Gary and I have talked about getting together - he had not been to these lakes before, so plans were made. An a success it was! I had a great time with a new friend and got the photos I'd wanted.

I will likely post twice as there were a lot of beautiful birds, bugs and flowers to capture.

Hope you enjoy.

Thank you Angela. We did have a very enjoyable morning. These lakes are in the very middle of the city of Lakeland. Lake Morton is a very beautiful park with statues, fancy street lights, an area for performing arts and an arboretum. It was designed by William Levitt (I think I have the name correct.) He's the guy that developed Levittown! Next time I'm there, I take some wide angle photos. People go there to see and feed the birds, jog, walk the dog and just hang out. Some people actually bring cameras to take pictures! The birds are not fearful at all of humans as they are accustomed to handouts.

Larry, it sounds like a perfect place especially to go with a camera.... and who would have thought the person who developed Levittown is now in Florida!! I also live in a Levitt home and I'm out in Coram!
I'd love to see some wide angle shots, so plan another trip!!

Well, I hate to admit this but my facts were all wrong! It is Mirror Lake that was designed by a 'Leavitt', Charles W. specifically. Not William H. of Levittown fame. Here is a link - hopefully it was fact checked better than my 'story'.

I'm sure that your modern Levitt home is much nicer than the original $6995 mass produced houses built in the '40s. I had family years back that lived in the originals.

Hahahaaa, I would think that's an easy mistake to make...... Larry, we did do a lot of work on our house, but let me tell you, my friend lives in Levittown and most of the houses have gone throught quite a bit of renovation, expanding up and making them into McMansions!!! So not a bad deal if you bought at the $7,000 mark!!

Thanks for the link.... I'll give it a look!
