This small country house has five extensions, a feature that has been very common around the country for many decades.
Today, it would be a Building Inspector's nightmare!

That'she true. Families really do grow into their houses.
Quite a long walk from back to the front of the house .... not my cup of tea so to speak. Nice capture though.

It could be called a "rube goldberg" house.

Good question but the house isn't all that old. It was build in the early 20th century across the street from the birthplace of Calvin Coolidge in Plymouth, VT.

My remodels over the years (several of them have always addressed the entire design or appearance resulting. It costs more to do but you don't get a result that people take images of and post on the Internet!

This is an architecture category. The posting represents an aspect of house architecture. Any meaning it may have would be someone's personal opinion.
What's the sign on the roof above the front door?

The house belonged to the Coolidge family, built and used as a residence for a Coolidge relative.
It was converted a few years ago to a small business .
The sign reads: "Top of the Notch" (first line); "Tea Room - Gift Shop" (second line)
