I don't know of any Li-Ion rechargeable 9 volts but there are several Ni-MH 9 volts available.

Yep, the problem is that Li-ion cells are 3.6-3.7V each, so 2 cells =7.2-7.4V and 3 are 10.8-11.1V.

The last time I bought 2 each 9v rechargeable batteries, they were too thick. I sent themback. If you have a tight compartment, they are useless. I just buy the regular ones in stores now. But, I'm sure all 9v rechargeables are not the same
in thickness.

You know what else comes in different sizes? 12v outlets in cars and boats, etc. I bought a set of small flashlights that are supposed to stay in the outlet and get a charge. The problem is, they had no springs on the sides to make them fit tightly. I put a small amount of solder on a couple of them, and that worked in my car. They would not, however, work in some other 12v outlets - too wide.

Here's what I've done for 9 v. batts, rechargeable or otherwise: make them up from six D cells (1.5 v ea.) and string them together in series with leads from the last one positive terminal and 1st on neg. (or vice versa). To hold them in line and together I simply place them end to end in an appropriate length of pvc tube et voila, a 9 volt battery made of either rechargeables or other type. I got tired of running out of juice when shooting birds in dense forest using a flash range extender. Sic 'D' cells provide power for a day of shooting with a lot of flash projection. I'd fasten the PVC tube battery to my tripod leg so nothing flops around and away we go. Works great.
