Oh, my aching back! I need a right-angle viewfinder for my Canon EOS Rebel T2i but which one?

I want to do close-ups with my camera and have a nice new lens for it (50mm f-1.8 stm), but bending over to look through the viewfinder is killing my back. My budget solution for right now is a right-angle viewfinder I found Neewer ones with magnifications of 2, 2.5, or 3.5 available, all around $50 from Amazon, or a Ziv brand 1.5 or 2.5 at $60 from B&H. Both brands come with adapters to fit my viewfinder.
Any recommendations?

Close ups of what? Have you considered a chair and sitting down?

If you are looking at a static subject (as in macro or close-up) consider a 'gorilla' tripod and tethering. That way you do not have to bend much, just look at a laptop screen.

A nifty fifty isn't my idea of a macro lens. What's wrong with the cameras LCD monitor. You may also use an external monitor via html cable. You may also consider acquiring a camera with an articulated monitor.

I'm going to be walking around outdoors in parks taking pics here and there along the way. My subjects will be little vignettes I find, like a leaf caught in a fence, or an interesting texture, or something, whatever catches my attention. I want to take as little baggage with me as possible, so taking along a laptop or chair isn't practical. I do have a tripod to steady the camera. And my budget is limited, hence the right-angle viewfinder solution for now.

I had the same need and found one on Craigslist. There is always KEH .(used equipment site). they have good prices. Go to the canon site and look up right angle viewers. And then see which one is compatible with your camera. It should say in the specs. Then do a google search for that model. There are no electronics to consider so would b comfortable buying from a discount site that may have your price.or try eBay.

I understand what you are saying, but something like this may actually help. Inexpensive, easy to carry, light-weight: http://www.rei.com/product/765283/rei-co-op-trail-stool

I have something similar (with a back) and find it extremely versatile and worth taking along on the type of outing that you describe. When out by myself I sometimes like to find a good location, and sit and observe while considering an image or wildlife situations and so forth.

Good luck!

First, there's an overlap between macro and close-up. I intend to be in that grey area between macro and normal, 1 to 10 or so feet away (maybe adjusted as I get to know my lens better). Second, I'm on a limited budget, and $100 is generally the most I can spend per month on extras. I'm working with the camera I have and the tripod I have, and chose my new lens specifically to do close-ups.

Thanks, Peter! Practical, in my budget range, not too bulky.

Thanks, CMC, i need to put KEH on my place to browse, too. I always go to B&H or Amazon out of habit, but I've seen others mention KEH on here. I have had bad experiences on Craigslist so I stay away.

I agree with everything you just said. I have a couple of police officers in the family that keep an eye on me re craigslist. I just got lucky that there was a listing for a viewer at a house 100 ft from where I shoot at one of the ponds. It was $45. I had already seen the residents coming and going so was comfortable ..but eBay can b a safer choice. I have purchased several extras from KEH. They are a good company to deal with.
