Shot from the car, short on time but I want to return to this area and literally 'camp out, waiting through all the magic times of light throughout the day. I haven't been into landscape photography but when I saw the shadows across the hills in the foreground I was moved. Has anyone just 'focused' on one scene and waited? I would love to hear suggestions.

If you move out here you will not need to campout. And many of us have had to wait minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and/or years for the right shot to occur.

That shot looks like where I grew up. I grew up in Grand County Colorado on the West side of Burthoud Pass 90 Miles NW of Denver. Nearly the only way out of the County was going over a mountain Pass. Gods country.

Very nice photo.

I have waited while fishing at O'Haver Lake near Salida, CO, for clouds to clear from Mt. Ouray so I could take a photograph. Sometimes the clouds dissipated and I got the photo. Sometimes not and I went home photo less of that particular view but usually fish for dinner. A win for me either way. The lake is at 9200 feet and offers a magnificent view of the mountain. To get closer to the mountain there is a road, Marshall Pass Road, that winds right past near the top of the mountain and down the other side to US Highway 50.

Thanks of the comments. FYI, this was taken in Fremont County, approximately 20 miles out of Canyon City. I like the idea of moving out there but where? Real estate seems to be mushrooming. I especially love it around Salida and Gunnison, so do many others with money than me.

I would have to make an educated guess that this is up Highway 9 to 39 mile mountain or thereabouts. I have killed some elk on the other side of that mountain. I used to own a ranch 10 miles up Highway 9 from Canon City, not Canyon City. I will be there in about a week.

Send me a PM if and when you are in the area again.
